About to interview - know people at the firm

I'm going to interview with a firm in about 3 weeks. I've met 2 people at the firm - one through a pro bono activity and one through a club I'm in. I've met both of them one time, but spoke with them one on one and they should definitely remember me. One of them is an alum from my law school and a partner in the firm as well.

I plan on sending them an email before the interview in hopes they will put in a good word. What should I say in the email? Should I ask how they like working for the firm? Should I bluntly ask them for advice?

Thanks

Just send a short email to let them know when you will be coming by the firm for an interview and that you're excited. Maybe also add in that you'd love to stop by and say hello if that's okay with them, and you'd appreciate any advice they'd like to share before your interview. Keep it simple - they'll be more motivated to put in a good word if you seem genuine and not like you're angling for the job. Good luck!
