Top 5% at Villanova a lock in Philly area?
Just finished 1L in the top 5% of my class at Villanova (w/ LR, local ties, etc.). That should get me at least one SA offer from one of the big Philly firms right?

Considering latest stats show less than 8% into NLJ250 from Villanova, I don't think it's a lock at all.

Exactly... That's just the kind of statistic that's freaking me out.ajaxconstructions wrote:Considering latest stats show less than 8% into NLJ250 from Villanova, I don't think it's a lock at all.

I wouldnt bet on it... apply to a lot of jobs to cover your bases. Villanova hasn't had great press lately and not tons of big law jobs from there to begin with.

One could be #1 at Nova and not land anything. It isn't all about the grades.

Nothing is a lock in Philly.

No such thing as a lock. On paper you're gonna be great, but you still gotta nail the interviews. Assuming you draft some decent cover letters your only lock is a ton of interviews.

I'm going to nuance other responses a bit. I think you aren't a lock at the top 10 or so largest Philly firms, but I think at the least you'll get something at one of the smaller firms paying 100k+ or a smaller office like DLA which pays above Philly market.

I was in the same position. Considered transferring but decided against it after talking with others. Its not a lock in the sense that you should mail it in, but everyone i know in a similar position had a couple offers.
If youre closer to #1 than top 5% it is pretty much a lock. In the past three years, people who were in the top 5 or so spots were getting offers before they left callbacks.
Also, I would mass-mail NYC firms.

Yeah, except DLA isn't doing OCI at Villanova! >:{Anonymous User wrote:I'm going to nuance other responses a bit.
