This may seem obvious, but my guess is that this just means the open slots are not at times you can do. This happened to me a bunch too, I even dropped one of my less favored firms for the 14th to try to open things up a bit, but it still didn't work. But then added two on the 13th where I already had 5 (so 7 on Monday...).

Which firms are giving out cocktail party invites? I have none I would do so much better at a cocktail reception than at a 20 min interview!

Neither did I hear of the cocktail invites. Can anyone give me a head-up?

You're right. That hadn't happened to me yet, but today it did, so it busts my theory.Jessuf wrote:i know this isn't the case because some firms will let me view open times but will say time conflict. these just pop up "no interview slots available."Anonymous User wrote:This may seem obvious, but my guess is that this just means the open slots are not at times you can do. also, i know white & case, shearman, and milbank have receptions and possibly one more that i have no forgotten (these are just of the firms i have interviews with).
Just added DPW and Paul Hastings, at 19 plus 2 from mailing. Life is good.

So, I have a few New York firms I'm thinking about cancelling and am trying to pick up a few Bay Area firms. Does anyone want to try to coordinate a TLS-switch?Anonymous User wrote:You're right. Would be glad to trade any of:Jessuf wrote:By bay area, I'm assuming you mean sf/silicon valley? Which of those do you want/need? And which NYC are you canceling?
Fried Frank (NY)
Shearman & Sterling (NY)
Baker Botts (NY)
Chadbourne & Parke (NY)
for:
Latham & Watkins (Silicon Valley).
Let me know. If this works for you, we should probably confirm the system is working first.
I'm happy to make the above trade with anyone who is interested.
edit: I would also consider trading Cravath for Latham (SV). Post if you're interested. Not certain about that, but I'd entertain the thought.

I originally received 10 screeners, but I have picked up 3 in my top 50 in the open sign-up period. Hoping to get two for the next three days to get up to 19. I just keep checking the site.

Are you IP? Or interested in random secondary markets? Because that's all I see. I'm tempted to sign up for some west coast interviews b/c I would move cross-country in a heartbeat, but I ain't got no ties.plumpeach wrote:I originally received 10 screeners, but I have picked up 3 in my top 50 in the open sign-up period. But I did manage to get Simpson Thatcher NY the first day, so I can't complain too much.

I'm not IP, but I am targeting DC/Baltimore and Dallas. I picked up 2 DC interviews in open sign-up and 1 Dallas firm. I feel like you have to stalk the site so that when an opening becomes available you can get it.Anonymous User wrote:Are you IP? Or interested in random secondary markets? Because that's all I see. Was so proud of myself for ninja stalking a slot with Quinn ny and then realized I'm below the gpa cutoff. Sigh. Anyone know how strict they are and/or wanna trade?

Good luck all. I went through this last year. Top 10% and GLJ. Ended up at a DC firm.
If people have questions feel free to ask. I'm sure other 3L's will be checking here once in a while too.
My firm said job market is a little better this year than last, and we did better than expected last year, so I think things are looking up compared to the last few years.

Up to 28 interviews. Don't know how I'm going to manage this, but I'm not complaining.

Can you give a description of what a normal interview is like? Were most conversational? Did you get a lot of the questions that OCS posted on the website? (like Why law school?/Why gtown?). Any tips? THanks.Anonymous User wrote:Good luck all. I went through this last year. Top 10% and GLJ. Ended up at a DC firm.

What GPA cutoff did you hear? I've generally heard it's 10% from t-14s. the school listing doesn't have data on them, does it? as to how strict they are, my understanding is pretty strict unfortunately.M1_42 wrote:Was so proud of myself for ninja stalking a slot with Quinn ny and then realized I'm below the gpa cutoff. On their OCI listing it said 3.69 or something like that, which is about top 10%. I'd guess that's fairly accurate (not always, but in this case, it matches what the grapevine says).

Not the anon above but I went through this last year as well. You'll get used to them real quick. Generally, yes, all the expected questions and little to no curveballs. If you can describe the interview as conversational, I'd say that's a good thing (beats staid or incredibly formal, IMO). As to tips, I'd say know the firms but don't shove the fact that you know them down their throats; bring up relevant knowledge when it's appropriate and not for no reason.Anonymous User wrote:Anonymous User wrote: Can you give a description of what a normal interview is like?
