What are the exit options for top nyc RESTRUCTURING groups?
Just curious where the top bankruptcy lawyers (Weil, Kirkland, Skadden) go after working their 4-5 years to get experience. I assume the attrition rate is as high as it is in other groups since the hours in elite BK groups anecdotally is 2600-3000/yr.
top public m&a --> lower firm, in house (particularly at f500), maybe IBD associate
top capital markets --> lower firm, in house (particularly at banks)
top PE m&a --> lower firm, in house (at banks, and maybe a fund)
top Lit --> lower firm, public interest, botique, midlaw, fedgov
top restructuring--> lower firm, ????????????

i know a few that transitioned into business roles. restructuring is much more driven by the legal aspects than other areas, and thus having a legal background in it is very useful in the business role. the guys i know weren't even from top shops (the ones you listed) but came from second-tier nyc practices.

You wouldn't need to be an MBA. And 35 is only old if you're a K-JD (which, in turn, would decrease your odds of pulling this off).Anonymous User wrote:so it's possible to go:

An MBA would be a waste of time or money for a midcareer professional switching sides in bankruptcy. The credential you need is your experience in bankruptcy legal work, not 2 years of boozing and shmoozing.Anonymous User wrote:I think you'd still need an m7 MBA for ^^^^ path to banking/buy side
