Gee, thanks, that was helpful.clone22 wrote:seriously? You have to make a thread about it?
step 1: rank firms by how much above market they pay.
step 2: bid in that order.
Not his fault you started a ridiculous thread.Anonymous User wrote:Gee, thanks, that was helpful.clone22 wrote:seriously? You have to make a thread about it?

Yes, I totally asked for sympathy .Haymarket wrote:You are not going to get any sympathy for being the prettiest girl at the dance and being put in the impossible and terrible spot of having to pick who you want. It really is as simple as listing out above market payers and ranking them by your preference.
Please take it elsewhere.Haymarket wrote:The entitled responses and shiteating eyeroll smileys just make you all the less sympathetic and confirm the conclusion from your OP that you don't realize what an unbelievable douche you sound like.
Well no shit, but if you're top 5% at HLS I would assume you can figure out how to use the very simple TLS search function.Anonymous User wrote:Guess I gave up all right to know which firms are better for what I am looking for than others . Especially for the LA market, you can't just go by Vault...

Sorry my thread offended you so. I was looking for individualized advice. Guess I am just a total "entitled douche" for starting a bid list thread...unlike the 50 other ones floating around.Ozymandias wrote:Well no shit, but if you're top 5% at HLS I would assume you can figure out how to use the very simple TLS search function.Anonymous User wrote:Guess I gave up all right to know which firms are better for what I am looking for than others . And the 50 other bid lists threads are not douchebags?Anonymous User wrote:Yes, and you're totally not a douchebag . . .Anonymous User wrote:Yes, I totally asked for sympathy .Haymarket wrote:You are not going to get any sympathy for being the prettiest girl at the dance and being put in the impossible and terrible spot of having to pick who you want. Unlike many of the other posts, you don't need help with bidding strategy. You are competitive at nearly every firm, which you undoubtedly already knew, and the information you do need is elsewhere on TLS. Your main concern now will be not coming across as incompetent and obnoxious in your interviews, and I wish you the best of luck with that.Anonymous User wrote:And the 50 other bid lists threads are not douchebags?
If it bothers you so much, why post? I didn't realize there was a certain point at which I couldn't post in the legal employment forum, or gave up my ability to ask about bidding strategy. Like I said, I made the post for individualized responses, did not attack anyone or pretty much say anything except my bid list, and got jumped on by everyone.Ozymandias wrote:Anonymous User wrote:Sorry my thread offended you so. Not bothered in the slightest. I believe you are the only one bothered ITT. You're more than welcome to continue posting in Legal Employment, while I will continue attempting to direct you to the search function, which is quite helpful.Anonymous User wrote:If it bothers you so much, why post? Yes, obviously did not realize I would offend so many people. I'm sorry I did, i'm going to edit out the OP and let this thread die. I honestly was just looking for advice, and I apologize if I upset anyone.sheD wrote:Haha love that it only took OP about two minutes to change the thread title. Sorry man, no one's too concerned about making sure HLS top 5% gets a job at Susman over MTO.
I really appreciate this, thank you so much. I do apologize for how I went about it, I absolutely should have posted something much more tactful, like this post.Shaggier1 wrote:TLS, we can do better than this. Just because OP has done very well at one of the best law schools does not mean s/he should not strategize/seek advice. A bad bidding strategy is exactly the sort of thing that could derail an otherwise very strong candidate.
OP: I am at one of the firms listed in your top 10 (in LA, as well). Coulpe of quick thoughts:
1) No Quinn? (I personally did not like Quinn and I advise people to stay away from it for a number of reasons, but if you are looking to litigate in LA, I am surprised not to see it on your list).
2) You should find out if Boies will be hiring for their Santa Monica office. If so, I would move it up on your list.
3) Unless you expect to have a clerkship locked up straight after graduation, be careful with Munger.
4) Generally, don't put so much emphasis on firms paying above market (if anything, this is probably what pissed other posters off - lots of people here are just hoping not to strike out, so it is probably difficult to see someone looking to go above market). Aside from Wachtell, it is probably only a short-term benefit. You are better off, in the long run, being at a firm where you can grow and be happy as an attorney.
Can you name some?I advise people to stay away from it for a number of reasons,
Offers aren't contingent on getting a clerkship, unlike Susman. But about 80% of the attorneys have clerked, and the firm has high hiring standards. So if you aren't competitive for a clerkship, you aren't competitive for Munger.Anonymous User wrote:3) Great tip. Are their offers contingent on obtaining a clerkship? I am interested in doing one, but would not like to risk losing my offer due to changing my mind or not obtaining one.Shaggier1 wrote: 3) Unless you expect to have a clerkship locked up straight after graduation, be careful with Munger.
