3L Hiring Options
T-45 school, top 25% (as close to top 20% without being in it), Editor-in-Chief of secondary journal, SA position 2L summer at very well-respected mid-size commercial litigation firm in a major market (firm does not give out offers to SAs and only hires laterals), 9th Circuit externship 1L summer.
Just trying to figure out realistically what my chance are going into 3L OCI and when I should begin mass mailing firms.
Thanks for your help!

Oh, I forgot to mention my 2L GPA was 3.7+ (somewhere around top 5-7%) and I will be having my note published in the next year.

Almost same boat. I'm planning on mass-mailing at the beginning of August, but I'm not sure if firms will even look at 3L resumes until they've done their summer hiring. Still, earlier seems better than later. Good luck.

Re: 3L Hiring Options
So is the conventional wisdom that, as a 3L, one should wait until August to begin mass mailing firms?

Re: 3L Hiring Options
I plan to start mass mailing mid-July.
Slightly better stats (~top 15%, LR, big law SA). Not holding out any hope though as 3L OCI at my school is worthless and mass mailing feels like playing the lotto

Wouldn't mass mailing in the middle of your summer program look bad?Anonymous User wrote:I plan to start mass mailing mid-July.

Why would it look better at the end?Anonymous User wrote:Wouldn't mass mailing in the middle of your summer program look bad?Anonymous User wrote:I plan to start mass mailing mid-July.

Re: 3L Hiring Options
I also want to do the same.
But summer program is over at the end of July - when do you recommend for me to start mass mailing?
Also, does mass mail include a cover letter for that particular firm, or just resume and transcript?

Dude, what? Yes you need a cover letter. It goes in the body of your email, addressed to the recruiting coordinator listed on NALP.Anonymous User wrote:I also want to do the same.
