IndyBar Diversity Job Fair
I don't understand how the interviews were selected. I'm scheduled to interview with a few "biglaw" firms (for Indy anyway) and several smaller ones, but none of this correlates to my grades nor the number I ranked the firms. My top choices were in a smaller secondary market where I'm from, and somehow I didn't get any of those interviews. Are interviews chosen by lottery?

Re: IndyBar Diversity Job Fair
I think the interviews are pre-select. I am not sure if you are underselected or overselected, but my interviews are somewhat correlated to my bid ranks and grades.
Q: do we have to attend the reception on thursday?

I guess I'm just a little disappointed I didn't get the firms I wanted, but I should be pleased because my grades aren't competitive for the ones I did get.
I'm attending Thursday night, it'll be nice to mingle and network. I don't think we have to though.

yeah, but then we only have seven interview max, so it doesn't make sense (for me at least, since I have less than 10 interviews). do we have 4 lottery interviews for sure? I am trying to figure out which one of mine is preselect and which one is lottery.0LNOOB wrote:10/14 interviews are preselect, and 4/14 interviews are lottery

Re: IndyBar Diversity Job Fair
Has anyone heard of people securing employment through the indybar fair in years past?
Also, I am assuming these interviews are intended to be for the firm's indy office? I am from Ohio and am not sure if I should talk about my desire to be in Ohio, although I would be more than happy to find employment in naptown.

Do we know who our interviewers are? I wanted to research the screener beforehand, but can't figure it out from symplicity.

Yeah, if you secured an interview then you should click on the OCI tab and see next to the firm name something like "schedule for July 27th." Click on that and it will give you details such as place of the interview, time, and who the interviewers are.

Would callbacks mean a trip back to Indy?

Anecdotal experience:
Rising 3L, no ties to Indy. Did this last year, got 3 interviews and 1 callback.

Good to hear. So, if I have ties to Indy, hopefully things will go better (7 interviews, really hoping to end up in the area).Anonymous User wrote:Anecdotal experience:

Did you get the why Indy question? If so, how did you respond to it?Anonymous User wrote:Anecdotal experience:

I am interested in the area, but have no ties. So I worry that the trip would be a fruitless effort.

Re: IndyBar Diversity Job Fair
I am attending the fair this Friday and have 6 interviews. I am a half-syrian, half-white male that basically looks white and I've had some second thoughts about going because I don't look like a minority. Is the atmosphere going to be uncomfortable during interviews or around the fair in general? I am active in our middle-eastern students association and truly value diversity but I am worried I will be looked at as "that guy." Anybody able to offer insight about my situation?

Re: IndyBar Diversity Job Fair
My interviews are pre-select. I didn't have my middle-eastern students association on my resume though (just didn't fit with my formatting). I have it on my updated resume that I will be handing out during the interviews. Is your thought process that I should worry less if the interviews are pre-select vs. lottery? If so, could you walk me through that (even though it may be obvious).ajax adonis wrote:Are the interviews at IndyBar pre-select? If the interviews aren't, then do you have all that diversity stuff on you resume? If so, then you should be fine.
Like I said I am half-Syrian and truly value diversity, and would love to end up in Indy. I am excited for the interviews... I just don't want to feel uncomfortable in the interview setting.
