YLS FIP

Anyone know how important Hs are for top NYC/LA firms (Irell, MTO, CSM, S&C, etc)? Not talking LPs, but how big of an impact do unimpressive grades have? Just curious for bidding purposes, haven't found anything else on here.

depends on the rest of your resume. some of the smaller boutique type places look for h's but most of the firms don't really spend that much time on your transcript. you only have one semester of grades and if you did a p/f clinic you might only have 3 grades.

Not a big deal at all for NYC firms. People with a mixture of Hs and Ps got offers at all of the firms you listed. Can't speak to LA, but it seemed like the very top DC firms were the most grade-selective.

MTO wants to see more H's than P's. Irell is somewhat less selective, but still wants to see dem H's.

Do you think it's still worth trying for MTO with 1 H and 2 Ps (the other credits are ungraded)?

How grade-selective? All Hs? Almost all Hs? More Hs than Ps?

It's worth a shot. It will help if you have a strong background or YLJ. (You find out about YLJ before interviews, right?)

At a handful of selective firms, you probably need more Hs than Ps. But if you don't have many Hs you'll still be fine. You'll see -- almost everyone looking at the DC market gets a job somewhere very desirable. Some people clean up and get offers everywhere, and other people get fewer offers but still good ones.

Latham, Sidley, Mayer Brown, and Hogan have all issued callbacks, as well as a number of the DC offices of New York firms (Paul Weiss, etc.). As far as I know, no Gibson Dunn or Wilmer callbacks yet.

Thanks man. Good stuff. Speaking of Gibson, what is with the weird rumors?

PK/AA, and at least one of the two other pairs. They went out at similar times yesterday (between 3 and 5), so I assume Sidley DC is largely done.

Gibson gave out on-the-spot invitations to dinners to some (but not all) interviewees. Even the dinner invitees haven't been told yet whether they've gotten callbacks, though.

Wilmer DC is now done, I think--JR's calls went out tonight around 7:45, JC's around 9.

Is there any consensus on whether this is dispositive of whether an interviewee will receive a callback (or, conversely, an interviewee who was not invited will not receive a callback)? Were all Gibson interviewers involved or just a handful?
