Vandy; 3.2x (below 3.25) - DC Firms/Other Legal Employment?

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Jul 02, 2012 12:22 pm

3.2x (below 3.25) at Vandy with no real ties to DC. Are there any less-selective firms in town which would give me a look? Firms with large SA classes? Etc.

Also, I am not limited to firms... I just have loan debt and need to pay it off. Any other legal employment opportunities which would help me do so? Think about ~$55k/year or greater.

Don't think almost any firms will give you a look, unfortunately. I'm told most Vandy SAs in DC have 3.6 GPAs (a few in the 3.5 range) or above. This comes from one of those current Vandy SAs. Its a super tough market.

I mean, I'd definitely bid for DC interview program. Take a look at the agencies that are coming too. I just keep hearing that DC is insanely competitive, so I would spread a wider net. Where do you have ties?

Yeah, I figured as much... any hope with governmental organizations, or are their standards as high, too?

I'd definitely try, but most of the Federal agencies are equally tough. Be sure to do research and see if they actually hire entry-level attorneys too. I've heard from a couple of bitter people who interned at places that were never going to hire them. You could look at non-profits or less competitive agencies. Maybe look at the EJW career fair?

3.55 at Vandy, checking in. Any thoughts for someone in my boat? Still not sure which firms will give me a real look.

You can probably get a bigfed summer position, but the chances that it will lead to a permanent offer are like nil.

DC isn't worth bidding on for you. Where do you have ties?
