Ditto on the Patton Boggs friday ding... I think their call backs are over so offers should be out soon.

Gardere anyone? I know some offers are out, but where are the dings...?

Does anyone have any thoughts on K&L Gates Dallas? I'm interest in joining a global law firm, but I'm also looking to get a solid foundation in Texas and also to have a life outside of the firm (I'm married and want to have children in a few years). Has anyone heard anything about K&L Gates Dallas?

Before I say too much, I should ask: is there somewhere else you're deciding between?

yes one other firm in Dallas that is a mid-size Texas based firm. No offices outside of Texas.

Its hard to say without knowing the other firm. I would choose Jackson Walker over K&L but I would choose K&L over Gardere, Winstead and Strasburger. Hope that helps. K&L just isn't what it used to be and they've lost a ton of people, but its not in serious danger like Strasburger or Winstead.

Both firms have been losing lawyers and business recently and have been hiring very few first years. I was probably being a little overdramatic with respect to Winstead. But Strasburger has to be in real trouble.

I've heard the exact opposite about Strasburger.

Go HB. It's their headquarter office and they are the top of the market in Dallas. They have a topflight appellate practice and are top 3 for corporate in Dallas.

Edit: also, they are super nice and their offices are beautiful

Agree re HB. Also, w/r/t Akin Gump, their Houston office has lost a ton of people recently. It used to be a full-service office and now its a true satellite office with less than 50 lawyers.

This is like choosing between Bracewell Dallas and AK Houston. Not even a contest.

Unless you really want to be in Houston or have aspirations of going out of state, I think it's a no brainer. Haynes and Boone is the top "Dallas-based" firm, and seem like they have a really good office culture. I also don't think that partner is as much of a pipe dream as it is at BB/V&E or any of the V20 firms in Dallas, and this is coming from someone who is going to one of those firms.

Best of luck
