How selective are K&E/Sidley's NY offices?

I'm between top 1/3 and median at a lower T14 (NU if that matters). Do I have a shot? What do I have to bid them in order to get a screener?

K&E NY is a legit power center of K&E. Sidley NY is mostly Brown & Wood, a securities firm that Sidley merged with in 2001. It was very heavily involved in real estate securities--I don't know how it's doing now, but it's not considered one of their top offices like Chicago or DC.

Sidley NY should be doable from median. For K&E NY, you'll want to be closer to top 1/3. I'm not sure if either has a separate schedule for OCI, but if they don't you need to bid them in your top 3 because both are insanely popular. If they have a separate NY schedule, you can probably get away with a top 10 bid, or even top 20 for Sidley.

Hm, I dunno if I agree with this assessment. I was median/a bit below at CCN, and I got an offer from K&E but not even a cb from Sidley. I know people here from NU who got offers from Skadden, so I assume you need normal V10 grades to get K&E from NU though.

The OCS data indicates KE NY is more selective than Sidley NY. Your personal anecdote probably has more to do with Sidley's tiny class size than the relative competitiveness of the two firms.

For paragraph 1: This is a thread about it here: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=163512. I don't want to rehash that thread, but the claim that NY is not one of Sidley's marquee offices is not controversial. Sidley Chicago and DC are top offices in those markets, Sidley NY is several notches from the top in NY.

For paragraph 2: I'm an NU grad and I have NU callback GPA data for most of the 2000's.

At least from NU, K&E NY is somewhat less grade selective than any of the NY V10. NU folks love K&E though, so I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of them chose K&E over say Skadden or Weil.

Also, I suspect you can tell less about an NU student's grades, on average, than a CCN student, because many of those hires will have non-grade things that firms love: Kellogg MBA, banking experience, etc.

This doesn't lead to the conclusion you think it does. I had an offer at K&E NY and Febevoise, but was dinged from Schulte at the screener. Latter more selective than the former? Hardly. This isn't an exact science.
