We have a median one going and some overachiever thread as well. Let's put this all together and ride this out as a team. Post bidlists, questions, experience if you've been through this before. Good luck folks. Keep your eyes on the prize (the 70 hour a week LPW prize!)

I support thread consolidation. Will be sure to post my (anonymous) bid list when I sort it out.

What are the maximum number of bids one should give to a calendar day? I would assume no matter how good the "fit" or whatever, it would be ill-advised to allot 15 of 30 bids to the 10th of August. Anyone else given this any thought?

Recent alum here. Bidding 15/30 on one day is a bad idea - if you get even half of those, 7 or 8 interviews in one day makes for a really miserable experience (you'll be surprised how drained you feel after the first day - you're on top of your game all day long), and you're more likely to screw up the interviews later in the day. You'll have long days anyway, but I think the most I had was 5 interviews in one day, and 6 isn't uncommon either, but try to avoid anything approaching 15 (not all of the firms you really want are only interviewing on a single day).

I had up to 13 interviews in one day. Survived, but barely. A lot of the firms that I wanted were there only on that day though, so there wasn't really any way around it.

What are we thinking the new Stone ranking will be? Top 40%, due to the new curve?

I think it's closer to top 60%.

How the hell would Stone be closer to 60% just from the A range grades moving by around 5% or so? The effect will likely be minimal and I don't know what the obsession is with knowing the exact percentage you are in the class. It's ultimately pretty irrelevant to your bidding options whether Stone is exactly 30% or 35%.

The B range changed considerably as well. B+ and above used to be 45-55%. Now its 55-65%.

If you're not Stone, you're bottom 40%.

Also, sketchy as hell, CLS took the 1L curve down off LawNet.

No shot, the curve is still harder than the 2L and 3L curve, and according to http://www.law.columbia.edu/careers/car ... ng_and_Hon it maxed out at 45% of 3Ls for Stone previously. Stop fear-mongering.

this is ridiculous. Even by the numbers you've offered as proof a 3.41 would not be 60% of the class

In terms of bidding and success rate etc, is there really any meaningful difference between very low Stone (think right on the cut off) and median/slightly above? I can't imagine the "Stone" designation on your resume really means much once they see your transcript. At that point, does it make the most sense to just make a bid list of all <50% honors hiring firms and be done with it?

Rising 3L here. My guess is that Stone is still around top 35%-40%. Don't forget that fall semester was still the old curve. A quick thought experiment, assuming that the 1L curve is now as follows, averaging the fall and spring semesters:

A = 10%
A- = 15%
B+ = 35%
B = 40%

Thus, median falls around 3.31. Of course, this does not take into account the probably bimodal distribution of grades (ppl getting all high grades and ppl getting all low grades), but probably works out to a good average.

Calling all rising 3Ls and grads. Can anyone speak to the quality of their summer experience? Are there any firms that, if lucky enough to have multiple offers, you would stay away from? Run to?

Is there any point in listing popular firms in the bottom 20? I.e. firms that you're not crazy about but that have an interview rate of around 30 or 40% - is there any way you would get interviews with those if not in the top 10?

if you are not crazy about them and they are tough to get an interview with, what is your reason for listing them?

because they are less selective (in terms of hiring) than my favorite firms that I currently have at the top of my list. Its tricky because the firms that are less selective in terms of hiring are the most difficult to get interviews with. So where on the list should your "backup" firms be?

can you drop some of your favorites down and pepper your top 15 with a few of the less selective firms? If not, it sounds like you are risking not getting those screeners at all.

so, what are your guys thoughts about the impact of a no law review / journal on EIP prospects.

P.S. anyone know when word from (secondary) journals is due?

This is relevant to my interests :D :(

Pretty sure we'll be hearing about secondary journals around the 6th or 7th.

first off, I'm pretty sure the new curve was for both semesters. when they posted the new curve in the spring, the pdf file indicated that the curve posted for last semester was incorrect.

second, has anyone heard if law review calls have started?

Pretty sure the new curve was only for the spring semester. Multiple professors addressed it in their grading comments for spring semester exams. It would seem pretty strange for it to be implemented for the fall semester and for none of the professors to address it until the spring semester exams. Regardless, the slight shift is only consequential in the aggregate and I doubt the the new curve would have an impact on any individual's chances at various firms.

No idea. I forget if the application packet said there was a time we would hear by or have to respond by or something.

I can't find a copy of the writing competition packet, but the "journal day handbook" says calls would be "on or about" july 3 (subject to change).
