Congrats on the offers.

It seems like some of the more aggressive and quick-moving firms were IP/patent oriented. Care to confirm or deny without outing yourself or the firms?

This and congrats!

Also, has anybody outside of a Seattle regional received a CB for a Seattle office/firm?

Yes. East coast T14, CB for Seattle firm. I'm afraid I can't say which one. Not PC.

A lot of the CBs I've heard of have indeed been patent.

I was under the impression Cozen is pretty quick with offers/dings after the CB. Any truth to this?

Could either of you say what your grades were? I'm a now-1L with Seattle ties at an east coast T14, wondering what I need for next year.

Sounds like Seattle's larger firms (PC, Davis) have been pretty quiet. Anyone received any word from them recently?

OP: Lets Talk Seattle...

Response: Let's NOT and just say that we did. Lol.

Seriously...Seattle is a fantastic city, and you should strongly consider moving there. I don't think any city in the U.S. is as beautiful or can provide as high of an overall quality of life as can Seattle.

OP here, and I would still like to talk about Seattle. It is sad that the Duluth thread has more traction than this one. I can understand if people don't want to talk about CBs and offers, but can we at least discuss the firms please?

Duluth FTW? You're right, though, it is strangely quiet. Maybe UW/SU don't have many TLSers. Any firms in particular you're curious about?

I had a 1L SA, and have a 2L SA lined up as well. I know about most of the firms in town (but not all). If you have specific questions or anything you want answered, I would be happy to talk Seattle, but I'm not sure what to say to just "discuss the firms."

I can tell you that all of the firms in town are great. None of them have the "prestigious" (aka, pretentious) feel that every TLSer seems to love about NY firms. Having interviewed with firms in DC and NY, I can definitely say that if you think you will fit in well with a NY firm, you probably won't fit in well here. People are very relaxed, casual, friendly, and understanding. Personally, I could never see myself at a firm anywhere but here (or Portland).

However, as has been said a lot now, there aren't many SA positions in Seattle. Patent law is booming here, and I have almost no doubt that anyone who is actually qualified (EE, CS, life science phd, ME in that order) can find a job here with semi-decent grades from a semi-decent school. Other positions are not nearly as hot. Most of the firms that used to have a lot of SAs have cut down significantly. The biggest SA class is PC, with maybe 10-15 or so. The rest all have single digit classes. 1L SA positions are fairly big here, and most firms have at least 1 or 2. My firm had 3 SAs total, and 2 of us were 1Ls.

Other than that, the city is fantastic as PDaddy said

Thanks for contributing to the discussion. Everyone I have met through the OCI process has been very nice, and I can't think of a single firm I've interviewed with that I would not want to work for.

Without strong ties I have heard Seattle is near impossible. As is Portland.

I want to clear this up. I'm a non-local with offers in both Seattle and Portland. The only ties I have to the PNW is coming out here for law school, an aunt who lives in WA and some friends in Portland. From every interview I've done, it's a lot less about being the person who was born at the foot of the cascades while it was raining and Soundgarden was playing, and a lot more about actually showing a desire and interest in being here.

I have some good reasons for being here and wanting to stay here, and I've never had anyone question them or doubt them. They just want to make sure you won't hit February 20th of your first full year and say "I haven't seen the sun in 2 months, I'm moving to San Diego." A lot of firms have asked me what cities I'm looking in, I always tell them Seattle and Portland only, and they always are down with that.

I do want to say that every single firm I've interviewed with in the PNW (over 20) has asked me why I came out, and if I plan to stay. But it wasn't anything like grilling me on my "ties" it was just them being curious since my resume has nothing to do with the PNW until law school starts.

Yes. East coast T14, CB for Seattle firm. I'm afraid I can't say which one. Not PC.

Second yes here. Same details as previous poster.

T14, Davis Wright Tremaine callback.

Based on my own dings and one callback, as well as those of others' I've talked to, I think the $160k techies (WSRG, Fenwick, Cooley) are well into callback period.

I've had a much harder time sussing out what's going on with Foster Pepper, Graham & Dunn, and others in that band.

Any info on what's going on at Perkins Coie mega super appreciated!

It is my understanding PC has not started CBs yet. My screener was over two weeks ago and nobody at my school has heard a thing.

Foster has just started CBs. Cozen has been doing them for over a week. Not sure about any others.

Same anon poster. Just curious - what would people choose in the same situation: Perkins Seattle ($125k) or the Techies Satellite offices (160k)?

I am doing CBs at the same firms and I think it really depends which techies you were offered at. I don't think you can go wrong with PC because it is top of the game in Seattle, has a good partnership track, pretty good work/life balance and the firm isn't going anywhere. It seems like some of the satellites have really embraced the Seattle culture and are pretty much just run like a local firm, but some of the satellites pay more and work you harder for the money. Also have to consider how the Seattle satellite office is run, and if its profits are independent from the firm at large, how secure the Seattle office is, etc.

In a similar boat, I would echo what this user said. I would add one additional note: that it depends which practice area you end up in at PC. I've heard that certain practice areas will work you as hard as or harder than some of the 160k techies. Although the practice you end up in will likely depend on your summer and the firm's needs when you graduate, it's worth investigating if you're leaning toward a particular area.
