To the recruiter. Attach your transcript, especially if its good. Contact an alum at the firm; ask if they can chat.

Yep, I'd say do all of these things. Email any official stuff to the recruiter/hiring partner, but then reach out for coffee/phone chat/etc. if you want a more personal touch.

I've heard to mail hard copies because they're harder to ignore. Thoughts?

Expensive and bad advice. Firms won't ignore an emailed application.

When someone mails you something that is clearly junk mail, how hard is it to ignore? It goes straight in my recycle bin.
