From what I have heard, M&A was affected by the financial crisis: less mergers, less deals...How did it affect the amount of work you have? Did the firm downsize a little?

Aim for mediocre firms with large class sizes.

For instance. . .

None. Firm downsized in the peak of the crisis, but is now exceeding pre-recession levels. We're busier than ever and I really wish we'd hire more people.

Not nearly as much as being in the top 5% of your class.

Unless you're not paying a dime for that degree, I'd pursue another career path. Don't mean to sound elitist, but job market isn't spectacular even for top 10 law school grads.

Yup, know it's going to be hard. Lucky enough to have gotten around $70k in schollys and another $35k in support from my parents. I also have $20k saved myself. I'll take $90k in debt for a law degree.

How hard is it to get into the M&A group at your firm, provided you express an interest, are enthusiastic, do good work over the summer, etc.?

How much sleep do you get on average?

How many nights of <3 hours sleep due to work have you had in the last 6 months?

Is there any lay prestige? Are people impressed when you say I did ABC deal working at X elite mega law firm?

Is there a certain personality type that self selects into M&A that you notice compared to other practice groups?
