This was me. I also have an additional pre-select. It was a "not invited" that changed to "pre-select;" I still have the same 3 alts.

This was me. I definitely got a new preselect since I checked this morning around 6:30 a.m. EDT. Now 6 preselects.

Was your status previously for that firm "not invited" or "alternate"?

Not invited.

Congrats! Maybe it's the same firm who was late to the game or something? Pretty sure I'm out of luck in terms of getting another pre-select, but now I'll keep checking.

Could I mass mail a bunch of firms including ones who didn't preselect me like MoFo?

I fully intend to mass mail the ones that rejected me when I get my journal results (should be before July 10). I figure showing enthusiasm for the firm can't hurt, especially since BADCF was so competitive and I'm sure they couldn't select/alternate all the people they might have had some interest in.

Good to hear. Are you from the Bay Area also? Did you indicate your ties in your Resume? (if so, how? Feel free to PM). I am surprised you didn't get more since CLS has nearly the same reputation score as Stanford.

Also, I think they are selective at BADCF not just on the basis of gpa/school rank, but they are also looking for diverse candidates--maybe even specific kinds of diversity. As someone who barely met the criteria for diversity, I wonder if people like me could do better in another setting.

From the bidding site:

"Allen Matkins, Bryan Cave, Fenwick & West, Goodwin Procter, Hanson Bridgett, Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton, Kirkland & Ellis, McDermott Will & Emory, Morrison & Foerster, Nossaman, Pillsbury, San Mateo DA's Office, and White & Case have not submitted their selections yet. Please stayed tuned at this announcement board."

So a few more might be coming down the pike.

That's a bit weird, I have a pre-select from Goodwin Procter. Perhaps they haven't completed their selections yet?

Can someone post or PM me when they get a preselect from MoFo?

Also, did everyone rejected by WSGR just get a generic email about OCI? Wondering if it was sent out to everyone at my school or just BADCF.

Any chance I could still get my updated transcript into their hands then? The difference between top third and top fifth is huge, I hear. How would I go about doing this? Why did they have the bidding deadline before most schools had even released all their grades?

Seconded. Just realized Symplicity didn't update my resume correctly.

No idea if you can update your transcript--maybe if you replace the PDF in documents? I suspect that they have the bidding deadline before most schools released grades because the fair is early and people need time to decide to attend and make arrangements before the fair. I for one had been waiting to buy plane tickets until I saw how many preselects I got (if any).

Note that the career fair organizers are helpfully crossing out employers on the home page as their preselects are posted. For example, Fenwick & West just got crossed out and I got another preselect out of it.

Hey guys - posted this in a different place but think this might be the more appropriate thread.

I've heard some conflicting advice regarding the Bay Area Diversity Career Fair. Would love to hear from people who have uys -been through the process or are otherwise knowledgeable.

Does it hurt you at all if you're not "diverse?" I didn't have anything on my materials which indicated any diversity/relevant membership in minority organizations, etc. I still got a couple pre-selects. Is it safe to assume these employers saw I'm not diverse in any way and selected me regardless? I was told a lot that a lot of non-diverse (white) applicants attended previous BADCF fairs with success, but I'd love to hear your experiences.

Thank you all for any anecdotes or thoughts you can offer.

I think that relies on a fairly narrow view of diversity. In addition to the problematic idea that white people are not an important part of a diverse community, there are aspects of diversity that are not immediately visible--sexual orientation, gender identity, religious background, immigration status, socioeconomic status, invisible disabilities, etc.

You may be asked about the importance of diversity or what you could contribute to the office's diversity. You should be prepared to answer that question or even proactively address it. Some recruiters might see a person who doesn't have any interest in diversity as somewhat cynically taking advantage of a career fair meant to help people who are less institutionally privileged than they are (which is not what you're doing...right?)

I've got preselected by WSGR, but still received their OCI email.

Wrong message??

also interested in this.

Last year I had 4 (or 5, hard to remember) alternates. 3/4 (or 4/5) had one alternate slot, while 1/4 (or 1/5) had two alternate slots. I was able to secure one alternate, and it was the firm with more than one alternate slot.

HTH.

I suspect that WSGR emails are either via a mailing list they get from schools they are attending OCI at or for people who applied for 1L SAs (SullCrom did something similar).

Nothing here either. But no more firms have been crossed off the list on their homepage, either.

This is absolutely killing my productivity. Between this, SFIPLA, and Law Review calls, I can't focus at all for the past couple of days.

T40s, top 5%, 25 bids, 12 preselects, 2 alternates, 4 bids in to firms that haven't sent in preselects (from announcement).

Got one alternate I didn't bid on?? Don't get me wrong, not at all upset!
