Tips/Pointers:
1. Once you receive a ding/callback following your screener, this is the suggested included information:
[*] Firm/Office
[*] Result (callback/ding)
[*] Communication Method (phone/email/snail/mail/carrierpigeon/etc)
[*] Stats (e.g. GPA, approximate rank, IP, work experience, journal, etc)
2. If you want people to be able to tell you apart from other anons, sign your posts with a moniker. It's not required, but it will make it easier for anons to talk to each other ITT.

What is everyone's sense of our classes' interest in markets outside of Chicago and New York?
The CA and DC market presentations weren't super well attended, but I feel like i've heard a lot of talk about interest in both. Kind of nervous about bidding them low and ending up with few interviews.

I'm planning on Chicago/D.C. for my markets--probably 25 and 15 respectively or so. Not entirely sure yet though. I have a CSO meeting this Friday to figure this shit out.

Looking at the data, 22% of the 1L class come from the West Coast, last year it was 28%. That may suggest it is slightly less competitive for CA.

What's everyone sense, bids after 15 in Chicago...pointless or just a crap shoot. Oh and someone explain why you have to bid K&E top 3 to get a spot when they're doing 160 interviews...doesn't make sense to me

They're ridiculously popular. Though I think last year they had only 80 interviews.

The DC presentation had only like, 15 people there, tops.
But: I was told that only 15 people ended up in DC last year? That seems low.

Also can someone tell me how to interpret the OCI/GPA data on Symplicity? All of the medians seemed REALLY high.

1) remember that the same high GPA law review kids get called back to a lot of places, but can only accept 1 offer.
2) It's median so roughly half the CB's were below the median.
3) For most firms you can probably subtract .1 from the median for the accepted offer #.
FWIW on the more grade competitve firms I'm focusing on the lower number to see how I might stack up...Alas it still elimiates a few firms (Grippo, Barack, etc.)

What are the early indications on OCI 2012 over OCI 2011 over at NU? More firms comming? Lower median cutoffs? Have firms given any indication if they are raising their average summer class sizes from 2011?

What should we be making of the less objective info out there at this point (thinking the reptuation stuff based on ATL's Career Center, Chambers, etc.)? Is that really worth weigthing very much in constructing a bid list, or more relevant after you have interviews, CBs, offers?
I guess I'm wondering how much to value "I'd like to work there" relative to "they hire a lot of people at my #'s so I think I can get that job"

Reputation stuff on ATL's Career Center, Chambers, etc, comes in when you're deciding amongst offers, not when you're bidding.

I wouldn't look for Chicago to expand hiring all that much. Chicago is one of the most conservative cities regarding hiring and the firms move very slowly to expand hiring. People indicated that they expected an uptick in Chicago hiring last year, but I don't think it was as significant as some in career services were expecting.

I'd be surprised if there was a non-insignificant uptick in Chicago class sizes. I doubt they're not going to shrink, but I'd expect class sizes to be about the same.

Anyone have a good sense of what a realistic/conservative bid list looks like? If I know my grades make Sidley/K&E/Mayer loooooong shots am I better off to eliminate them entirely, despite their large classes? Esp since I'm not in a position to sell any of these firms as a "this has always been my dream" kind of places.
I don't want to end up with a bid list that's unrealistic or wasteful!

I'm not at NU but is this reasoning similar to other schools? Subtracting .1 from the CB for offers seems kind of ludicrous though.
