Seward & Kissel
Can anybody provide some info on this firm? They pay market and are known as a "lifestyle" firm..........What I'd like to know about is their personality fit. I've heard people throw around that they look for a very particular type of person to fit in to their culture, but I've never heard somebody say exactly what that is.

I'd be interested in this, as well. Smalllish firm, but do some really cool work in the Hedge Fund community

I had a callback with them. They have a low average hiring GPA, but interview a lot of people. I seem to remember hearing that they did something like 50-70 callbacks for a class of 9-11. They are IM focused and seemed to be looking for something specific, but I couldn't figure out what. Every associate had a wildly different background and personality. An interest or background in finance and business would probably be a good place to start.

I have 2 friends with S&K callbacks (from a T14) who couldn't be more different from one another personality wise

I went in recently and just did not get a good feel. Everyone was really nice, but it felt sleepy to me.

What do you mean by sleepy? Also, can you describe your cb (questions asked, apparent expectations of candidate, etc.?)Anonymous User wrote:I went in recently and just did not get a good feel. Everyone was really nice, but it felt sleepy to me.

I don't know if it's the time of year, but the office seemed dead. Not to say I'm expecting Carnivale when I walk through the doors of a law firm, but I feel like other firms I've visited did a better job of conveying that "aspirational" quality to the type of work and position. The people seemed really happy and they seem to have good retention, but I just didn't feel like it was the right place for me.Anonymous User wrote:What do you mean by sleepy? Don't get me wrong, it's a great firm and the people were very nice, it's just I wasn't excited by the work they do or my interviewers.
The call back is typical. They'll ask what interested you in Seward and what you're looking for in a firm and summer program.

Has anyone else still not heard back from them post-screener? Obviously I'm not holding my breath but maybe no news equals hope? Any idea of when they finish CBs?

Re: Seward & Kissel
I had a callback there a couple summers ago and also felt it was a sleepy place. It's quiet and the partners are generally pretty old. Like others have said, associates were massively different from each other and I didn't get a cohesive feel from the place on the whole.

Are you the same poster who mentioned the sleepy feel above?

I have an offer. I really enjoyed the firm. I agree on the sleepiness, but not sure it's such a bad thing. Strongly considering them for both their niche practices and culture

Anyone know of instances where offers go out ~3 weeks after callback?
