OP here. Can someone answer my question please? How should I approach firms in HK as a rising 3L?

This might be similar, but I approached UK firms in London as a 3L (mid August, but earlier is better) by directly emailing partners/associates and asking for advice about how to apply. They were all more than happy to email me back and give suggestions. I had the most success with alumni, or when professors/students specifically told me who to reach out to. I saw it as a game, if someone didn't have any leads they would usually tell me to contact someone else at a different firm. Or a professor that I knew worked for an international firm before academia might give me a list of names to talk to. Or Career Services would give me the emails of students who had Summered over seas. Just play the connections like crazy--nothing to loose and everything to gain. I have a feeling that reaching out to offices in HK is similar. And make sure that you research a LOT about the firms so that you know what to bring up in the emails. It's probably all Capital Markets, so express an interest in that if it's what you want.

Top 20 school here, top 15%:

I am trying to figure out if I should be contacting HK as a 2L, ideally, or focusing solely on getting a good SA in the U.S. I am going to study abroad in HK as a 3L, should I find employment as a 2L. Also, I've been accepted to do an MPA in Accounting between my 2nd and 3rd years of law school at a top-ranked accounting program. Would this help get one's foot in the door for capital markets or securities in HK?

I can't speak for other firms, but it is 100% offer rate (small US summer associate class though) for the past few years for the UK firm I summered at this year.

Would taking the QLTS to become UK-qualified help, since a US JD would then be both US- and UK- qualified?

at CUHK the JD program is in English. Some professors even get mad if students try to use mandarin or cantonese in class. just putting that out there in re: language abilities being relevant.
