Um, it depends? What sort of employment and what sort of school are you coming from? And how are those two things mutually exclusive?Anonymous User wrote:magna + order of coif or cum laud + law review? just curious....

School? Type of job? You know what, nevermind. Law Review.

Isn't Order of the Coif top 10%? That would normally imply law review.
At my school, Latin honors are fixed GPA's...it's possible you could be top 10% and not hit the necessary GPA necessary for Summa.

For firm jobs, you'd rather be top 10% than say top 30% + LR.Anonymous User wrote:magna + order of coif or cum laud + law review? just curious....

Right, but I sense the opposite would be true if you want a clerkship.rayiner wrote:For firm jobs, you'd rather be top 10% than say top 30% + LR.Anonymous User wrote:magna + order of coif or cum laud + law review? just curious....

Re: what is better for employment?
I'd say law review because that goes on your resume in time for OCI and order of the coif doesn't

False. Clerkship hiring is intensely grade-oriented.

It's intensely grade oriented, but I feel like no journal is an automatic killer and grades are school dependent.Anonymous User wrote:False. Clerkship hiring is intensely grade-oriented.

As #1 in my class without any journal I sincerely hope that you are wrong, but harbor suspicions to the contrary.

Re: what is better for employment?
The clerkship debate above can be resolved by the same answer as is always expected: Both/It depends.
Some judges are notorious for having a de facto law review requirement no matter what your grades. This obviously is not to say that grades don't matter, but some judges simply want law review and see it as an easy cut off for hoards of applicants. Other judges just want the highest grades they can get. Most fall somewhere in between and weigh a variety of factors. I say this not as an expert on clerkships like GTL Rev, but simply as someone who's reviewed the hiring records of judges in various federal courts of appeals and competitive districts. Take it as you will.
