GPA Cutoffs for NYC BigLaw from T30? Forum

I would love to know this as well and if there is a grade cutoff for mass mailing

I'm a 1L at W&M. We have an interview program in NYC that a handful of big firms attend, and I'm having the hardest time figuring out what GPA might be required, with little help from OCS. The class ahead of me has 4 or 5 people (out of 200) going to V10s in in NYC, in addition to those who scored top DC firms or went to V50s in NYC, and I'm trying to figure out if I'm in striking distance for either range of NYC firms. If anyone has any idea what kind of cutoffs exist in NYC BigLaw for schools in this range, that would be really helpful.

My understanding is that at Fordham top 1/3 gets you the interview (but not neccesarily the job)

I figure BU/BC/Vandy will be about the same.
I guess UCLA/USC might be top half.

Yeah, some of these thoughts are surprisingly optimistic, especially coming from TLS.

I read that as number getting an interview, not number getting an offer. That might be generous for getting an interview in NYC, but probably isn't for getting an any interview.

well, luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you look at it) for you, it's probably 100% pre-select, so there's no point in trying to gauge what their cutoffs are for the interview. it's not like you're not going to bid on every one of them anyway.

That's definitely true. At this point though, I'm trying to determine whether I should make plans to travel for the interview program AND how much effort I should put into networking in that market over the summer, as opposed to focusing my efforts somewhere else.

depends on how likely you are to get a job otherwise. if you only get 1-2 screeners, it probably won't be worth it. 5-6+, then definitely go.

if you're top 10% or so, it's an easy way for you to finish the job search early on. if you're not top 10%, then you'd be foolish to turn down any opportunity.

GW is the same. Top 1/3 gets you the interview (but not necessarily the job).

BUT our interview program also has suggested GPA cutoffs on each firms symplicity page (e.g., SullCrom only wants Top 10% so if you apply and are below that, you are wasting your time). Does W&M do that as well? If so, I would suggest adhering to that fairly strictly with maybe a few reaches.

NO. I am baffled why there isn't some very simple data posted on this from W&M, which is why I have to ask here. Instead, the only information I've gotten is: "Yeah, you'd probably be okay for some interviews" and "talk to current students." OCS = well-meaning, but [sigh].

I just meant getting a biglaw interview. It's tougher to figure out NY because of how big a role self selection might play
