Question for junior corporate associates

For the junior associates that still lurk on this board:

For corporate associates, as a first year or second year, how often do you actually work directly with those 1-2 years above you? Are most deals staffed such that you mostly take orders/submit your work to mid-levels and partners? I'll be joining a NYC biglaw firm this summer and love the people in my class (that I know through law school) but am not too fond of those in the year directly above me... in fact, some are total tools. Am I going to have to put up with their crap once I join the firm full-time? Or can I largely avoid them since we are all considered part of the "junior" crop?

Depends on the size of the deal, but the vast majority of deals I've been on have had me collaborating with the associates directly above me.

So yes, you're going to have to "put up with their crap." Should've picked another firm if you didn't like them so much.

In my experience, if you choose a small group you're more likely to get direct partner contact.
