Considering that you can pick up empty slots, think about this for 2-3 minutes.
See my screed above for why picking up empty slots at Michigan is not all that useful for procuring extra interviews.

That's the problem. 30 bids was enough pre-ITE, when they got you 18-19 interviews on average. 11 screeners is not enough in any universe, IMO.
What is the school going to do about it? The firms don't want to do more interviews.
I honestly believe that if a school like Michigan had more bids, students would receive more interviews. Not 30, but definitely a few more.
Extra interviews in Milwaukee and Seattle maybe. Not in NYC/CA/Chi/DC.

It's open to debate. Still absolutely no harm in giving extra bids, though, even if it wouldn't necessarily result in more interviews. I think Berkeley realized this in its decision to give unlimited bids...

Will this really matter when most people are bidding on largely the same major-market firms?

Edit: See DF, supra.
Seriously, dude? This is the shit that makes people accuse us of having aspergers.

I don't think it's open to debate. Are there firms in major markets that aren't totally filled during bidding? If not, more bids is useless.

I think one problem with unlimited bids is it encourages bidding in markets with no ties, or to firms that you have zero shot with. That downside probably isn't a big deal. But the 30 rule didn't harm peoples job prospects.

Problem is that there were firms in major markets that had open interview slots at open sign-up...

So more bids is not useless.

I strongly doubt that that's OCS's reason for not allowing unlimited bids. Either way, who cares what reasons law students have for bidding on a firm? Didn't seem to hurt Berkeley if the NLJ numbers are accurate...

You realize you don't have to anon every post, right? You can totally anon one post, then switch to your "real" name on another, and no one is the wiser. It's crazy, I know.

I sort of realized that after the fact, but now that I've linked the posts through the subsequent disclosure, your post is largely useless. It's crazy, I know!

woah d00d, don't blame me for your incompetence. It was more a helpful tip for the next time (and it seems likely that there will be a next time) you want to get all whiny on a TLS thread. Just helpin a brother out.

Would have been more helpful if it didn't have any sass. That's what my sarcasm was getting at. Nice avatar btw.

While most of the firms that had open slots were smaller market firms, there were definitely firms with major market offices that had open spots that people were able to grab at like 6 am. So I agree w/anon Michigan screed guy/girl.

We had 50 bids and still had open slots people were able to grab. It's not because firms are full, its because people drop, etc.

Especially late in OCI. NU's longer OCI helps with that: people get callbacks or even offers, drop slots, then leave them open for others.

How long is it?
Last year I think it was from Aug 8th to Aug 21st?

I don't remember too clearly, but I am pretty sure that's significantly longer than Michigan, Cornell, NYU...

At Michigan I managed to pick up 4 extra screeners with fairly major firms and got a few CBs out of them (without running around early in the morning). I also had 22 screeners from strategic bidding. Of course I was targeting CA so things were a bit easier for me.

NYU at 40%? That is a big shocker.
It is? Why? NYU is doing well considering the economy, exactly as you would expect a top-5 school to perform. And if you think it's low, well...the economy is down.

The biggest shockers (in a good way) were West Virginia and Missouri. I was also mildly surprised by U-Washington.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
