Here's the full list of private firms, including non-250NLJ:
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings
Burr & Forman
Gallagher and Kennedy
McCormick Barstow
Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear
Simpson Thacher
Winston & Strawn
Fenwick & West
Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear
gresham savage Nolan & Tilben
Paul Hastings

Leonard Street and Deinard
Baker Donelson Bearman & Caldwell
Bass Berry & Sims

Harwell Howard Hyne Gabbert & Manner

Neal & Harwell
Riley Warnock & Jacobson
Schulman Leroy & Bennett
Tune Etrekin & White
Vinson & Elkins
Haynes & Boone
Bracewell & Giuliani
Haynes & Boone

Say these were all 250NLJ. That's still a pathetic 12% reporting. Your link was cute but doesn't cut it.

You completely whiffed here. Radlawlz has suggested that there is some solid proof of NLJ's accuracy because the employment numbers for 1 out of 50 schools and 13 out of 250 firms matched up. So, assuming there is some overlap between Vandy and some of the other 49 schools (...), this amounts to 5% of firms responding assuming the same firms on the employer list responded to the annual survey.
That is astoundingly retarded logic.

Dude you're silly. Unlike school released employment statistics - percentage reporting, no matter how low, does not negatively impact NLJ 250 data.

For example, if X school has 20 students firms report working there, and the class size is 200 - the NLJ percentage is 10. 20/200

If the number of firms reporting is pathetically low, it means the first number changes - not the second (using lay terms for you) ie: the 20 could get larger (not smaller) and the 200 stays the same no matter what.

This is way different than school reports. The school only bases statistics on those that report... So the second number changes depending on how many report.... Which means the overall percentage could be larger, or smaller.

Because NLJ employment statistics can only increase if more firms report, they are at worst conservative - and more likely accurate. Therefore, it is very rational that TLS users value NLJ statistics far more than school reported data.

Ugh.

Here's the correct way to analyze the response rate:

N(number of law schools) = 50
n(sample size) = 1

Firm Response rate = ~100%

Margin of error: Large (small sample size)

That's all you can take from this. But to somehow get a 5% response rate from this is absolutely retarded.

But, like, what if all the firms are fudging their employment stats, man?

Thing is, that isn't any indication of a lower amount. It just represents uncertainty. There's nothing to suggest there's a response rate lower than 100%. With the current evidence the response rate is around 100%, but we need more data to be more certain.

I'm not sure how much a 100% response rate for one school can tell us about the other 49, but yeah, we need more data.

In order to prove Texas was a T14 you would have to add up all the partner and judge surveys from last year. Some judges and partners may not have filled it out. Since you can't do that... the data is inherently unreliable. Amidoingitrite?

Even if you did the sample size would be too small to counteract the NLJ's strong bias, so you just keep your tinfoil hat on firm there buddy.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
