1L Summer Job - Drug Tests

Just wondering if anyone knows of any 1L summer jobs/internships that perform drug tests - I'm assuming firms usually don't for the most part, but what about places like the U.S. Attorney's Office, State AG's office, or Public Defenders?

-Thanks

Stop getting high and you won't have to worry about it.

Firms usually don't drug test? Do they have to notify you if they intend to?

They can make it a condition of employment, and require you to do random ones as a condition of continuing employment.

I had to take one for my in-house internship. It even included a tobacco test, lulz.

Did they notify you beforehand they were drug testing you, or notify you the day you started?

How about you just go ahead and stop doing drugs.

This response is tired and useless. People who do drugs and inquire about drug tests know that drug tests are not a problem if they just stop taking drugs. They're simply asking to know if they will be tested at jobs. They're not asking how to avoid this or bypass it or for your thoughts on their personal activities. They're asking for information, and if you don't want to help, then why post at all?

To the op, gov't jobs are notorious for drug policies and testing, whereas firms jobs vary but tend not to test.

As far as I can tell, everyone tests anymore, except small firms (who can't afford it). Just do what I am planning on doing: smoke less in the spring, then quit in April. Sure finals are going to suck without weed, but getting a job is important.

My firm didn't test. Gov't jobs test. In-house positions (from my small sample of friends who did that) test.

Thank you for this. This is exactly what I was wondering. And to Kalvano, bro, a little ganja never hurt anyone.

I never commented on the smoking one way or the other as far as right or wrong; I don't care either way. But if you're that worried about it in regards to employment, then the obvious answer is to stop. If it's a choice between a job and weed, one would think that isn't much of a choice at all.

I knew a couple weeks in advance.

That's the point. The OP is asking if this choice needs to be made. If the answer to his question is no, firms don't test then he doesn't need to make any choice.

USAO will ask if you've done any drugs in the past year, if you answer yes its an automatic DQ. Lying on a federal form is a big deal and if you do it definitely don't plan on working there again (apparently they polygraph their permanent hires) Some offices will have you fill out an SF 86 form which asks you to list all the drugs you've done in the past 7 years. Meant to say that this is why I ended up having to awkwardly pull out of the app process with the USAO (had an interview but had to hand in the forms first). I planned on just answering honestly but apparently there is a chance that having all your drug history out there can bite you in the ass when you go up for C&F.

So basically if you've smoked any weed this year probably best to just give the USAO a pass. People I know with gigs lined up at DA didn't have to fill anything out but plan on quitting in time for a drug test this summer.

All in all probably just a lot smarter to not burn in law school.

i suspect that USAO/DA only require SF 85P, which only requires you to disclose drug use in the past year.

I looked through a few gov't agencies, but the CIA was the only one that explicitly said that use of illegal drugs since entering law school will disqualify you. https://www.cia.gov/careers/opportuniti ... clerk.html

SF85P is indeed the form for the USAO. It's basically a "Sensitive" clearance, I believe.

Haven't touched a thing since before law school started. But, might just barely be within one year. I don't know what to do...already accepted the DOJ offer.

And, I don't have many other things that I could potentially do this summer.

My in house counsel internship did a urine test. And didn't give me much warning neither.
Probably because they are a big corp with like half a zillion employees, so they just have this standardized hiring system.
