Applying through email?

Question:

A job that I am interested applying for only accepts applications through email (only wants resume and cover letter). Should I use the cover letter as the content of the message or should I attach it?

I put a brief "Dear Recruiter, I'm an Xth year from A University applying to B position. Here is all the stuff you wanted. If you have questions call myphone or email myemail."
