I think I'll be going the signed/typed letter... penmanship is not my strong suit.

Also, it's state COA, not federal. I ain't that good :P

Still really excited, though. I think I'll be able to learn a lot. My experience is definitely the biggest thing I have working against me (other than intelligence, obv)

Got it!

Very laid-back interview. Talked to the two clerks for most of it... admittedly got a bit nervous around the judge, but that died down after a bit. What is the standard protocol for a thank you? E-mail or letter? When should I have it out by? Thanks.

Congrats!!!

Never expected that getting an unpaid summer job would be so difficult. Tired of sending apps, not much luck with anything. Started applying in late Jan and February, after getting my grades. Around 33%, t-14... focused on city where my school is located since I want to be here afterwards... and still nada. Not even interviews.

Phone interview with a federal judge next week. I have an offer from the Brooklyn DA. I'm pretty sure the judicial internship would be a better experience (in terms of work environment, substantive work, feedback, etc), but I want to become a prosecutor (hopefully NYC area).

I know the conventional wisdom is you can never go wrong with a 1L summer judicial internship, but would it help to get a DA's office on my resume? I suppose judicial internships are highly regarded enough that it wouldn't matter, but I'm worried about passing up an opportunity and not being able to get my foot in the door later. This is assuming I get the other internship, of course-don't wanna count my chickens before they...you know

For those who have already accepted a summer internship, are you notifying the other places you applied to that you have already accepting something/and are therefore withdrawing your application? I'm not going to bother telling places that never responded to my app, but I was thinking about notifying places that I interviewed with that I haven't heard back from yet.

Anyone that asks for extra material or an interview I will say I found something. If they didn't respond to me I don't plan on responding to them.

I meant places that I have already interviewed with that have not made a decision yet. Should I notify them?

I contacted places that I had interviews scheduled with, that had already given me offers, and that I had interviewed with. Otherwise, no. I applied to most places I applied to either Dec 1 or early Jan. and got my job offer in late Feb. I figure if they hadn't contacted me by then that I wasn't really up for consideration.

If you already interviewed, then yes, contact them.

T30 top 30-40% got biglaw SA offer today for a position that was posted, applied for, interviewed for and offered all within March. Could not have come at a better time because I was starting to freak out. Good luck to everyone still looking. This was in IP by the way.

I got offered a summer job at a small firm, but it is only part-time. Will employers ask me how many hours I worked at OCI next year and will it look bad if I only worked at this firm part-time and enjoyed the rest of the summer?

this is my plan, I wont put hours on the resume and I don't think firms will care enough to ask or do any research on it. I'm very happy because I get the legal job w/o the crapload of work so now I can just smoke weed all summer and get ready for OCI.

HAHA. Right on. I really don't think they'll ask how many hours we worked.

I just accepted an offer to intern with a Fed Magistrate judge.

Is there any real practical difference between this and an Article III internship when it comes to OCI? Or really to any other 1L summer work when it comes to OCI?

Also for anyone that worked for a magistrate, obviously this depends upon judge, but were the interns given any substantive legal work?

Any anecdotal experience would be appreciated.

I've researched the position and it seems like you'll most likely be working on habeas petitions and social security benefits appeals, with some civil rights and tort matters on the side. If you're lucky, you'll be able to draft actual opinions though. Art. III is a bit more prestigious, but other than I heard the distinction is quite negligible depending on the duties you have. Obviously, research and memo/opinion writing for a magistrate iis a lot better than doing administrative work for an Art. III judge.

I asked a similar question on the V15 associate thread, and he/she said that you can list future jobs but that it probably won't have a significant impact in decision making.

Has anyone ever heard of in-house counsel internships that pay at or near biglaw SA rates, respective to the market? Like at a major regional office for a Fortune 100 company or similar.

Yeah, a 2L I know had one last summer, and I know of at least 2 1Ls getting paid well for an in-house gig this summer. So they definitely exist, but are obviously hard to get.

Does anyone know funding sources that I could apply to for a federal government agency? For our internal summer funding, we are required to apply for at least one external funding source. However, I have yet to find one that does exclude federal agencies. Most limit it to non-profits or PD offices or limit geographically to places I will not be working.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate them.
