Is it nonexistent? Am I stuck going to SV?

If it's bad now, what are the prospects in 2-5 years?

Yep. Chicago does too, but those firms don't hire.

What about NYC?

I found DC to be much easier than NYC for EE. California is easier than both. I was 2/2 on interviews to CBs in california with zero ties.

IMO the optimal strategy is to go to the Loyola Patent fair, and target firms that actually do IP. Don't both with firms that hire one a year. Hit all the big firms, no matter where they are. Do the same at your OCI. You should be able to see all the big players if you do it that way. Don't waste interviews on firms that don't hire a lot of IP.

Loyola PLIP is credited. Unlike diversity fairs, you will actually get a job from there.

I've heard varying reports. Personally, I've found DC having a lot of interest in EE types.

There is a TON of IP in NYC and I don't know why you think otherwise. Offices include Kirkland, Quinn, Jones Day, Ropes & Gray, Kaye Scholer, boutiques like Kenyon and Fitzpatrick and the list goes on and on. However, the IP in NYC tends to be a bit more pharma based (with the exceptions of Kirkland and QE) so if you want to do tech/start-up stuff, Silicon Valley is a better place to be.

Thank you. That helps a lot.

lolwut? broski, do some research...if you're at a decent school (e.g. T20) with decent grades (e.g. top 33%ish) and IP, and, most importantly, you're not an aspie interviewer, you should have choices

a lot of pretty legit IP firms in DC too - due to PTO office and ITC cases.

+ Fish, Foley, Finnigan, MoFo, then all the smaller boutiques.
