Thanks for the update! Do you know if he or she had a competing offer from another office?

I had my round 3 interview about a month ago; still waiting to hear.

If offers have gone out, are they only to people with competing offers?

I'm curious (as someone who applied to the summer internship program) if anyone here is a former or knows if participating in the internships helps in full time applications at all?

It gets you a definite first round interview. That's the only thing I know for certain. There could be other advantages, but I'm not aware of any other definite ones.

If you make a really good impression on someone there who has pull with the legal hiring director, they could put in a good word for you, but I think most of the line ADAs and maybe even the senior ADAs won't be able to help you too much.

Agree with above. I'll add that at the end of your internship you have to submit all your written work, so don't half ass anything. They also ask every attorney you worked with to submit an evaluation.

Has anyone who's had a Manhattan 3rd round been rejected? I'm wondering if they're keeping everyone who's had a 3rd round open to consideration until the time for hiring decisions to be made, or if they're actually doing cuts at this stage.

Nothing here. I wonder when the bulk of 4th rounds will start coming out. January?

Yes (I was there last summer and am anonymous for obvious reasons). If you want to work there and get an offer for the internship, take it and then work your ass off. It's a big office, but it's also a "small" office if you catch my drift. Legal hiring will hear about everything you do throughout the summer (after all, they say "treat it like a 10 week long interview" for a reason), and you can really make or break your chances of getting hired. If you make a solid impression, those people will go to bat for you.

Also, on the 3rd round question above, I personally know someone who was rejected after the 3rd round. He also had a really bad answer (read: very very arrogant) to the last question from that panel asking him if there was anything else they should know about him. But he's the only one I know of.

Ah thanks. I'm guessing that they're waiting until they're finished with all the interviews before making the bulk of their hiring decisions, as well as seeing what their budget will be like, unless an applicant is extremely qualified or extremely unqualified.

Got a competing offer from a different borough. Completed third round with Manhattan in November. Informed Manhattan DA about 12 days before the other office expects my response. Have about a week left and haven't heard from Manhattan. :(

Maybe I should start a new thread, but I just had a quick question about how likely it is to get an ADA position at Manhattan DA if you interned for them as a 2L.

I've seen some statistics thrown out around here from past ManDA threads like "60-70%" of the interns are hired and "30-40%" of the entering ADA class were former interns.

Does this agree with the NALP directory statistics? I see that for 2012, 13 new ADAs were former interns, 7 were 2L interns from 2012 out of 34 that interviewed from the 2012 intern pool. Maybe the 30-40% statistic is somewhat accurate but this doesn't seem to agree with the 60-70% one.

Can anyone clarify?

In 2010, about 6 or 7 of the 30ish 2L summer interns were hired.

I'm a 1L at Manhattan this summer and hoping to be here post-grad. Obviously working hard and making connections in the office is important but if anyone has any other tips/advice/experiences they could share, that'd be awesome. Feel free to PM! Greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
