Career services told me halfway through to stop wearing my seersucker suit, but I still have either gotten rejected or not heard anything from the firms that I wore a more conservative suit to since then so I don't think that was it.
Oh my god. I don't think I've ever laughed at anything on TLS this hard. I can't believe you wore a seersucker suit to those interviews (seriously, why do people even wear those anymore)?

How did the people interviewing you not die of laughter? Hahahaha!

So it's not real? Aw. I still laughed at the image of that. Seriously, still laughing.

What? No. Just, no.

This definitely can't be real. But if it is, the seersucker is a problem not just because it's bad style/looks southern-old-money-ish, it's a problem because someone who can't anticipate that it could be an issue is showing a patent lack of foresight and judgement.

It also shows that you may quit the firm after two years to be a proprietor of a chain of southern-style fried chicken restaurants.

Seersucker shouldn't be worn after Labor Day anyway.

Everyone's pretty much already said what I wanted to say re: seersucker suit. But seriously OP, if you thought a seersucker suit was ok, I cannot imagine what else you thought was okay to say or do during the interview. Did you act too colloquial? Did you take liberties in expressing your honest opinions? Were you too snobby/self-entitled?

They like seersucker suits in Houston. Apply there!

There is no offer guarantee in this economy - even with your grades.

Be professional in every aspect, including wearing a conservative suit. Brush your teeth, calm your hair, and be personable. They want to hire someone they are comfortable working long hours.

Like I said, career services told me not to wear the suit and I did 7 callbacks without it and got the same results. I actually think there is nothing wrong with it.
It's not the suit per se. It's indicative of the other personality flaws that must be present if you thought wearing a seersucker suit was a good idea.

+1000

If you were thick-headed enough to think it was a good idea in the first place, it speaks volumes about your overall judgment. And I can't imagine how that poor judgment manifested itself over the course of those callbacks. When you have grades that high and credentials that good, there HAS to be a problem in your method or approach. Instead of looking to TLS, look into the proverbial mirror and ask yourself what you could be doing differently. Don't think of it from your perspective (since you were the one who thought a seersucker would be fine, remember?), but think of it from the perspective of the average everyday guy who is interviewing you.

For your next interview, OP, bring the rest of your barbershop quartet with you. Show the senior partners you know how to wear a straw hat and you can entertain at social events.

Can you describe your "more conservative" suit? And we better see some words like "charcoal" and "forgettable."

Seersucker can be pulled off, even for a firm interview, it just depends on the market.

Haters gonna hate.

Yeah, hopefully it wasn't along the lines of Don Cherry (the hockey fans will understand, and the non-hockey fans can use google to understand what i mean)

They can NEVER be pulled off unless you're an 80-year old and people don't care what you wear. I've seen a few people wearing these in D.C., young people, and they look like they just came back from the circus.

If you go to a firm interview with one, you get an automatic ding.

The best thing to do is wear a black suit with a light (not too light) blue shirt and grey tie. Can't go wrong.

I'm pretty sure OP traded in the seersucker for a more conservative suit, like a zoot suit.

Well, at least it's black, and has a fedora. That's conservative, right?

Black suit = fail. Charcoal, Grey, Navy. Never black.
