Personally I assumed I was done after the first 15 minutes.

I think this is right. I got 4 interviews, and all came in the first 15 minutes.

I applied to roughly 40 judges. Got 3 CoA interviews, one district.

Me too in every respect (3 COA, 1 district, all in the first 15), except I applied to over a hundred.

If I got an interview, how many people do you think a Dist. Ct. Judge interviews for one spot? i.e. odds at this point?

Dude, there's nothing left to anticipate. Even out west, a judicial assistant's day starts at 8:00 - 11:00 EST. And that's assuming they don't come in early to make a few phone calls on the most important day of a chambers' year.

Well, that whole application thing was a big waste of time.

When is it appropriate to call chambers you haven't heard from to get an interview because you'll be in town? Today? Monday?

Top 10% at Harvard with glowing recs from two big-name profs and the chief counsel of a federal agency. Clerkship interviews received: 0. Ooph.

Yeah... I don't know how I feel about calling all the EDPA judges who didn't call me and saying I got an interview with one of them. Especially because I scheduled him on Thursday, when they'll be booked (my COA judges are all Fridays, due to scheduling quirks on their end).

I'm going to assume you applied somewhat selectively. I'm top 1% at Georgetown, I'd take top 10% at Harvard over me any day, and I have four. But all in flyover circuits.

This just shows that the process is very random.

Or it shows that "did you get an interview" is based on more than just school rank, class rank, and recommendations.

That might be a little collectively ego-centric, don't you think?

How widely did you apply?

Also, what's top 10% at HLS? What were your first year grades? I'm trying to gauge my competitiveness for clerkships, but i have no way of telling.

I'd be curious to know what top 10% at HLS is too. I've heard everything from just above 3.9 to above 4.0.

Personally, if professors stick somewhat to the curve, I would tend to think that top 10% is closer to 3.9 than 4.0 based on an analysis of standard distributions, but I don't have any direct evidence.

Upperclass grades seem to be a lot easier than 1L grades though. I had half-Hs, half-Ps and no DS as a 1L and got straight Hs and multiple DSs as a 2L.
