Re: On Plan Clerkships 2011
This thread is premature, since on-plan judges can't schedule interviews until Friday.
FWIW, I received a call to "let me know they'll be scheduling interviews" a few days before the actual calling day last year. This was from a judge who occasionally follows the plan.

Understood about the timing- intended as a placeholder until the 9th when things will undoubtedly heat up.

Understood if you don't want to name the judge, but can you name the Circuit/District?Lol 'n' Order wrote:This thread is premature, since on-plan judges can't schedule interviews until Friday.

Do a majority of interview invites go out on Friday, given that by that point - judges will have had 3 whole days to come up with short lists?

Re: On Plan Clerkships 2011
I applied to Aldisert, was offered, on Tuesday, a screening interview with Aldisert's clerks (his article on his process suggests he does that w/20% of his applicants), had the screening interview with Aldisert's clerks today. Other than that, just a couple of confirmation e-mails.

Ah, so people call on Wednesday? Should I be concerned if I didn't get Wednesday calls? Should I be concerned tomorrow if I don't get Thursday calls?G. T. L. Rev. wrote:Does it snow a lot in Alaska?Anonymous User wrote:Are there many early movers?

Can you say how many SDNY judges you know of? Or if they are senior status?Anonymous User wrote:I will fill in with more details after friday but I know 2d and SDNY judges that have made calls after receiving applications on Tuesday.

I assume that judges on Pacific or Mountain or Central time call East Coast applicants at 9 Pacific/Mountain/Central time, not Eastern Standard Time; surely 9th circuit judges don't march their secretaries in to make calls at 6 in the morning. Or do they?

Will most offers go out before the end of September? A firm has me on hold until they figure out how many of their summers will be doing clerkships, so it'd be helpful to know.

Yes. I'd imagine many offers will be given by the end of Sept. 16.Anonymous User wrote:Will most offers go out before the end of September? A firm has me on hold until they figure out how many of their summers will be doing clerkships, so it'd be helpful to know.

I've heard of the legendary 12:01 am interviews, but technically they are "off plan":
Critical Dates10:00 a.m. (EDT), September 6, 2011
Applications received (OSCAR release)
10:00 a.m. (EDT), September 9, 2011
First date judges may contact applicants to schedule interviews
10:00 a.m. (EDT), September 15, 2011
First date and time when interviews may be held and offers made

Re: On Plan Clerkships 2011
So back to my question, does that mean that West Coast judges regularly call applicants at what, for them, is 7:00 local time? In other words, is all lost if one doesn't get a call from a Ninth Circuit judge between 10:00-10:30 EST, or is it common for them to wait to call until their normal work hours, or the normal work hours of their secretaries, begin?

I have no personal experience with this, but I've heard that they do call at 7am PST.traydeuce wrote:So back to my question, does that mean that West Coast judges regularly call applicants at what, for them, is 7:00 local time? Alum here. I know it's a different ball game, but I've been contacted by four off plan judges' chambers in the past couple of months. Two called around 9:00 AM their time; the third around 2:00 PM their time; and the fourth by email.
(The results have been one no offer in person interview, one no follow-up interview telephone screener, one in person interview that I'll find out about next week, and one interview taking place next week.)

Re: On Plan Clerkships 2011
Well, when an off-plan judge calls is completely irrelevant to when an on-plan judge calls; an off-plan judge can call whenever he feels like it. And actually, those judges aren't necessarily off-plan; the plan doesn't control when they call alums, though some do it on the same timeframe as current students.Anonymous User wrote:Alum here. Hence why I said that it's a totally different ballgame.

Why do I picture the Judge's clerks making the 7 am call and not the Judge?
