Sort of in between to be honest. They do not pay biglaw market, but will expect you to post a significant number of hours. They will absolutely pay better than the traditional ID-mills and they have some practice areas that are somewhat respectable. I believe their coverage practice is pretty solid (at least it used to be).

Its not the best (far from the worst), but in all honesty, if they are at your school's OCI, then you're not in a position to be too picky. The below article notes that starting pay is around 80K. I've heard this is pretty spot on...

on NALP its 90K... would you take this or NYC law dept (salary 62K.. and apparently a raise after 1 year of service, not sure how much that is)

Cullen and Dykmen over NYC Law Dep't in a hearbeat. Being able to say you work for one of the oldest law firms in the City will at least get you laid by trashy Staten Island girls after work on Friday... and really, what else is there in life?

All kidding aside, Cullen is not a bad place to start... I would absolutely choose it over the NYC Law Dept...
