I'm the +1 person from above. I do see your point about looking like it's based on rankings, but I think that's just part of why it's important to be genuine (I too gave very specific reasons, with much enthusiasm). YMMV, but for the record, it worked for me (they even mentioned my enthusiasm during the offer call).Anonymous User wrote:I articulated I would accept if offered the position in my thank you note to the hiring partner and received an offer shortly thereafter. I think it is much better in a thank you note to the hiring partner than during the interviews. For me at least, during the callback I wasn't 100% sure who was my favorite firm (my favorite firm was not my top ranked firm). It only became apparent to me after all my callbacks were over and I had reflected some. Saying they are your favorite and you would accept if offered during the interview to me sounds like you base it on ranking and not other factors-even if this isn't true. If you do it artfully and enthusiastically in a thank you note you can remind them of something in the interview, show some more research, and say you'd accept with them after having already considered the firm further. Also, only say it if you really mean it. If you wouldn't say I accept during the phone call, then don't say it.Anonymous User wrote:+1, except I let this happen during appropriate interview moments w/ my #1. Hiring connections (V20) have really emphasized to me that, while making such strong statements is fine, it's extremely important to remain credible. Apparently, sounding fake is a common problem for those who take this approach. Sorry if that's obvious-- just thought I'd throw it out there in case it helps. I wish you the best.Anonymous User wrote:I did this with my first choice firm. In a thank you note, I told them that after much consideration, I greatly enjoyed my CB and if I were to be offered a SA position I would certainly accept. The hiring partner wrote back to me thanking me for my message and said that the hiring committee would meet soon and would get back to me promptly. He called me the next day and I accepted on the spot.Anonymous User wrote:Finished my CB week with no offers in hand (though at least 2 of the regional firms said hiring committee isn't even meeting until October). Jumping on board and thinking of just telling my first choice firm that if they were to give me an offer I would take it immediately (which I would)... but then again, that smells of desperation and BigLaw doesn't like that (especially since I have no offers to leverage) .
I want this process to be over .
If articulated correctly, it does not come across as desperate at all; it comes across as enthusiastic.
Btw, jumping off this boat.

A little pick me up for everyone ITT:
See I never thought that I could walk through fire
I never thought that I could take the burn
I never had the strength to take it higher
Until I reached the point of no return
And there's just no turning back
When your heart's under attack
Gonna give everything I have
It's my destiny
I will never say never! (I will fight)
I will fight till forever! (make it right)
Whenever you knock me down
I will not stay on the ground
Pick it up
Pick it up
Pick it up
Pick it up up up
And never say never
See I never thought that I could walk through fire
I never thought that I could take the burn
I never had the strength to take it higher
Until I reached the point of no return
And there's just no turning back
When your heart's under attack
Gonna give everything I have

FWIW, I just received an offer from a firm I mass mailed. It happens, so keep working at it.

Re: No Offers Yet- All Aboard the USS Worried
If I've already e-mailed the recruitment director expressing my continued interest after the CB, would it be overkill to e-mail one of the partners with whom I met basically saying that I have every intention of accepting an offer if one is extended to me?

Re: No Offers Yet- All Aboard the USS Worried
Can one of you anonymous posters above please PM me the structure of your "I would accept an offer from your firm" notes? I'm having a hell of a time trying to make it sound un-awkward, especially because I already sent a thankyou note 24 hours after the CB. It's been over a week now, so how do I say, "Just checking in. Still thinking of you. Would definitely accept an offer on the spot. Thanks, bye."?

I am not trying to be a dick, but I thought it might give some hope. Just turned down several offers after making my decision. So there are still spots opening up; I know a few of my friends are going to be making decisions over the next few days too.

Got a CB today. That brings the OCI total to 2 and the mass mailing total to 10. Keep the hope!
Nobody will think you're a dick, but could you specify market -- or firm if you feel comfortable doing so?Anonymous User wrote:I am not trying to be a dick, but I thought it might give some hope. What are people's next steps?
Everyone in career services is pushing government government government, but the truth is, I don't want government. I want the fast-paced life of a law firm.

You will get the fast-paced life at USAO or Federal PD's office. I mean, if you were not being sarcastic in the first place.Anonymous User wrote:What are people's next steps?

You will also get paid well, especially if you are in a secondary market.

There are three parts to a job: doing what you like, pay, and quality of life.gp86 wrote:Anonymous User wrote:What are people's next steps?

Finally finally off the ship. After 9 CBs (3 dings, 5 MIA, 1 Offer) and one to go, I was starting to worry. As 5 firms are MIA, that means there are certainly spots open. dont give up.
