Got an offer from a midsize around a week ago. I informed my last outstanding V-100 about the offer, and the V-100 requested a second writing sample. What could this possibly mean?

On the same note, how do I respond to the midsize for the time being without making it sound like I'm putting the firm as my second choice?

If the midsize is a NALP firm, you have 28 days total and don't have to tell them anything.

It's not -- they gave me a two-week deadline.

I might not say anything to the midsize firm. Just get that writing sample to the V100 and make sure they are aware of the deadline with the midsize firm. Inform the V100 they are your first choice (if in fact they are) and hopefully they will make the effort to reach a decision by the deadline if possible. I wouldn't risk jeopardizing any "good will" or whatever you have with the midsize firm. Probably not great to come into the SA labeled - fair or not - as the person who doesn't even want to be here.

Potentially off the boat again. Got an offer from a federal agency in the field I hope to pursue. Still hoping for something better, or potential split with small firm in the industry, but guess good that can board a lifeboat.

Let me join those who after over 200+ rejections I can say seriously, NEVER FUCKING GIVE UP. Today, December 19th, I FINALLY got an offer from a smaller firm (30+ attorneys) in the DC Metro area. It's a paid position with the opportunity to work during the school year and the potential for long term employment as well. It came from a symplicity posting, so keep checking it, mass mailing and networking, IT WILL PAY OFF. I know it sucks and I was at rock bottom but kept plugging away. So happy to be jumping ship; best of luck everyone.

It's not a bad sign, but does it really matter whether it's a good sign or not? It's totally out of your control.

It seems to me that they like you, but your original sample didn't serve their purposes. I'd take a look at what you submitted. Was it an academic piece as opposed to legal writing? Was it something that was substantially edited by others? Did you cut it down to size in a way that made the arguments hard to understand? One of those could be the reason they want to see something else.

It sounds like they just need to see something to push you over the line. You might ask them if they want another piece like you submitted or something else. Good luck.

I honestly feel like I'm going to be poor for the rest of my life. I did well academically at a t-20 school but did not get a job for the summer. I hope someone out there will not see me as a piece of shit and hires me even for $1/hr so I can buy food.

Got an offer at my local DA's office after cancelling my OCI interview. Thought it was a clerical error, but it was real (never interviewed with them at all). Takes some pressure off me because at least I'll have SOMETHING (and going the ADA route has looked more enticing after striking out) so I feel less suicidal now. IBR would be solid for my debt load too.

Last night I had a dream that I had to attend a Cdo workshop on how to prepare for your summer sa. Everyone else in the group had one and laughed at me when I said firms evidently find me a desirable candidate.

Also the workshop was led by my ex-boss who fired me 3 years ago

Just received a summer offer for an in house position at an up and coming consulting firm for the pharma/biotech industry. As long as I go in and bust my ass, it'll lead to a job offer. Comparable pay to biglaw, quarterly bonuses, and the possibility of investment in something I didn't totally understand during my interview. 8-5 working days. Ecstatic for once. There is hope out there guys, keep trying!

I'm just absolutely lost, and my plan right now is to take enough accounting classes at the business school to sit for the (world's most expensive) CPA since landing a consulting internship seems very unlikely.

I got lucky I think. I'm from the area the consulting firm is from and just missed LR at my school. They said they get a large number of resumes, so I think locality played a lot to do with getting the first interview. Today they told me I was a combination of normal, personable, and confident and that's why they offered it to me.
