I have a CB scheduled next week and was told that in addition to meeting with attys, I'd be meeting with the head of recruitment for 20-30 mins. Is this customary?

Yes, most firms have you meet with the Hiring Partner, Managing Partner, and/or HR Director (who is normally an attorney). Its generally all based on who is available when you are interviewing - normally you will get at least one interview with or at least meet one of the above.
