Sullivan and Cromwell Callback

Post by Anonymous User » Fri Aug 26, 2011 9:20 pm

Has anybody had one in NY? How did it go? How long did it take to hear back?

they're pretty standard, nothing too substantive, and they usually let you know before you leave if you get an offer. I don't know if they let you know the same day if you don't get an offer though - maybe they have some people they're still unsure about but don't want to flat out reject.

A S&C callback is basically an offer. Sounds fishy if you didn't hear already.

Is the on-the-spot offer for all offices, or only NY?

I had a callback in a CA office and got an offer on the spot.

OP here. I haven't had the callback yet. I just got it via mass-mail and am wondering what to expect.

Sounds like the callback is only a morning, followed by lunch. Can anybody confirm if this is typical?

They have given offers to every single CB at my school in the past 3 years, per OCS (T6; NYC, DC, Palo Alto all included). It seems like the offer is absolutely yours to lose come the CB.

Does sullcrom always come on campus at your school or does this include some mass-mail interviews?

Not the poster, but SullCrom always interviews at the "T6."

I know, but I am trying to figure out if this data includes some mass-mail interviews as well. I got my interview via mass-mail and want to know if offer rates for mass-mail callbacks are as high as they are for OCI callbacks.

It's the same for the NYC/other office schedules so would imagine this applies to mass-mail as well. Seems to be a completely homogenous recruiting process at the callback stage.

Anyone know if SullCrom has stuck to its high offer rate this year? Have a CB coming up and it's my top choice.`

Everyone I know who had a CB there this year has an offer. I heard one story of one kid not getting an offer this year from a friend.

I had a callback at S&C yesterday, and I really didn't like the firm. The people were surprisingly unfriendly (at least as compared to my previous CBs so far at other V5 and V10 firms). Perhaps the feeling was mutual, though, as I walked out without an offer. Or maybe they decided my case before I showed up and that's why they were unfriendly? My school is worse than T20, for reference, although I'm in the top 5 students of my class.

It's so odd, I feel like I just returned from the twilight zone. Of course one or two of the people I met were nice, but the majority were not.

What did the hiring partner say when you met with him/her?

Just that s/he didn't have time to meet with all of the interviewers yet and that they would be in touch shortly. It seemed like a perfectly reasonable thing to say in the situation, but now that I think about it, it was probably code to the HR person that escorts you out of the building that I was not given an offer. They schedule you to meet with the hiring partner only a few minutes after you speak with the last interviewer, so it is quite surprising that on the spot offers are ever given as the hiring partner would have very little time to discuss each candidate (but I'm aware that spot offers seem to be the rule rather than the exception). Anyway, I don't feel like I did anything obviously wrong during the interviews except that two of the interviewers were just impossible to talk to.

Thankfully I have other offers and do not want/need one from S&C, but I'm still just so surprised by the entire affair.

Do you mind disclosing your school, or at least its rough rank?

I think you'll probably still get an offer. I talked to the recruiting person about this after I got my offer, and she said that sometimes they can't give an offer on the spot because one of the attorneys didn't turn in their evaluation immediately. She also said that was more common than not getting an offer at the callback stage.

I am still sincerely hoping that this is the case for mass-mail as well as OCI interviews.
