Wearing same tie to both screener and callback!?!

Post by Anonymous User » Mon Aug 22, 2011 10:04 pm

I have, in my opinion, an amazing interview tie. I wore it to the screener (a mass job fair) a few weeks ago, and want to wear it again at the CB wed. I'm not sure that the screener interviewer will even be there. Do I run the risk, or will the interviewer even remember?

I did this last year, it won't matter. They won't remember, and even if they do, they probably wont care.

Not sure if serious. :|

They won't care or notice. Your screener interviewer say one to two dozen people in suits. I'm sure it looked all the same to them.

I have yet to even see a screening interviewer during a callback.

Unless Pufer is your interviewer both times, it won't matter

If the tie is that memorable, you're probably doing it wrong.

If they say anything, comment on how its your lucky tie, as evidenced by the call back.

Maybe I'm just really risk averse but I would say definitely don't do it. If you change ties it obviously won't hurt you, if you don't it probably won't, but it may still hurt you. ITE don't take any unnecessary risks.

If it's not Drakes, you better not be wearing that thing twice.

derailing, but is the only way to clean ties (no actual dirt spots, just been wearing them for a loooong time) to dry clean them? cant pop them in the washer and put on gentle cycle?

I normally would do it, even though I've always seen my screener (albeit briefly) during my CB. There is one exception -- a screener had a similar tie to mine and we spoke about it (briefly, just for about 5 seconds) -- but I wouldn't risk wearing it again since it came up. Additionally, that firm called back very few from my school, so it's not like he's looking at a half dozen people he barely remembers. But that exception aside, go for it.

This thread is so epically TLS. If it's a simple pattern or solid color tie, no way anyone remembers it. If it's something more flamboyant or notable, then you probably shouldn't wear it to an interview.

You're better than me. I wouldn't remember what tie I wore to the screener by the time I went on the CB.

Be careful about dry cleaning them, as you can sometimes cause subtle but irreversible damage to the fibers of the tie by doing this. Sometimes you can also cause less subtle damage (i.e. the front will have an outline of the tie loop or logo patch because it was ironed/pressed in...not good).

You can steam-clean them. An actual steamer is the best way to do this, but you will get similar results by hanging them on your towel rack in the bathroom, turning the shower on, closing the door, and coming back in 20-30 minutes. Lay them flat to dry on a level surface and voila, wrinkle-free and a bit fresher.
