Can you give a range of stats? To me, it would seem if you could get offers at OMM and Irell, you would be a lock for Rutan and Stradling - any clue what happened?
sorry to take so long to reply...didn't see this until just now.

Stat range: T10, top 10-15ish percent, editor on secondary journal. I hadn't committed to OC during interview week and I think Rutan and Stradling frowned upon my interviewing in LA and the Bay Area. I think I'm generally a good interviewer and nothing sticks out as having gone "wrong," but you never know...maybe they just didn't see me as a fit.

Any more updates here? Is OC the back-up location for many students who wanted LA but can't get it? Or do most people have OC as their first choice?

OC was my top choice. Took a non-Vault firm over a V50 in LA.

Even if OC isn't far and away someone's "first choice," I would say it's rarely a backup for students who want LA. The lifestyle is pretty different even though the markets are relatively close geographically, you'd be unhappy in an OC firm if all you wanted was to live in west LA or downtown.

I think what's more common is either OC is the student's first choice or there's an important reason a student would be drawn to OC (family/grew up there, significant other has a position there, you like sun and want a family-oriented environment) that might be in tension w/reasons drawing them to other markets (i.e. wanting something more urban, not wanting to commute, etc.)

UCLA / USC, top 10%, LR

CBs at: Latham, Gibson, PH and OMM
Offers at all of them.

Like the previous poster explained, OC was definitely my top choice, and I had a lot of ties to the area (I live there and commute to school, my SO works there, etc.) Based on my discussions with people and the results I've seen, I don't think it is any less competitive. The OC offices tend to have much fewer summer associates, and maintain the same standards for extending cbs/offers as their LA counterparts.

FWIW, I ultimately turned down two V5s in LA for OC.

That has been my experience. Took an offer in OC over NYC firms just because the QOL seemed better for settling down and having a family.

Mind PM-ing what decision you made? I'll be at one of those firms as well.

Any updates? Most people still waiting to hear back from callbacks or trying to decide between different offers? OC firms seem to be a little slow (at least compares to NYC) because of the smaller summer class.

Will your friend be accepting? And is this from OCI or mass mailing? Thanks!

Haven't heard anything from Rutan. How many are they taking next summer?

Any idea on how UC-Irvine did in their OCI this year? I imagine some of the OC firms would take a look at some of their students...

Anymore movement this week? I'm getting the feeling that most firms have offers out and are waiting to hear back before they give out any more.

I'm waiting for Rutan. Does anyone know if they've given out any offers? I had my callback almost 2 weeks ago.

I emailed the firm recruiter today, and she said that they sent out my rejection today. SIGH.

Any updates on Snell? Anyone with an offer (or know of someone with an offer) planning on turning it down in the near future?

The rejection I received from Rutan indicated that they have already extended offers, and subsequently then filled their summer class... of course they could have been full of it in the email, but just FYI

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
