Some of the reasons I dislike his post are that it isn't clear what he bases his assertion on - experience, anecdote, imagination or what. Thread is TLDR, but I'm wearing business casual because that's what they told me to do. Following directions is fun!

Re: Quinn Emanuel
Because QE (NYC) has a reputation of being high-hours, I asked a few of my interviewers about this. The responses I got included the following points:Anonymous User wrote:I am looking to do IP lit in the SF Bay Area. I interviewed with several firms that have strong IP lit practice groups. I went into my callbacks with the assumption that Quinn required longer hours than everywhere else.Anonymous User wrote:Folks that got offers from SF:
Do you guys feel Quinn requires longer hours, as many have said?
Did interviewers ask/hint about this? If so, how would you respond?
After doing my callbacks, however, I'm not sure that my assumption was correct. It seems like all litigation associates in big law bill north of 2,100 hours. The only exceptions I found were associates that had a hard time finding work because business was slow. Overall, the billable hours expectation at Quinn seemed comparable to that of other big law firms in SF.
And, no, my interviewers at Quinn in SF did not ask or hint about hours. But I met with four associates, and I asked each one what they had billed in the last year. (Answers ranged from 2,100 to 2,350, though one person mentioned that another associate at Quinn had billed 3,000 hours last year.)
* Although a small number of people bill an obscene number of hours (like 3000+), it's fine to bill around 2200/yr. What matters more is quality and efficiency of work.
* QE associates spend a greater %age of time in billable activity than associates do at other firms, so more billable hours at QE doesn't equate to more hours working.
* QE associates sometimes go to trial, and it's very easy to accumulate hundreds of hours at a trial.
* Generally, associates said they didn't feel like they worked longer hours than litigation associates at other firms.

And does anyone know what the size of the LA office's summer class is/how many offers they've already made? I have a CB at the end of September and don't want timing to be an issue...

Re: Quinn Emanuel
It wont be because they've changed their hiring model this year. Last year they had something like 70% offer rate and hired few. This year the LA office offered CBs to like 8 kids between UChicago and Stanford alone.johndhi wrote:pretty sure that shit should be on NALP, no?Anonymous User wrote:Bump.Anonymous User wrote:Is the LA office also heavily concentrated on patent litigation?

Does this mean you guys think their full-time position offer rate this summer might be low? Hasn't it been 100% for some time?
Are we in agreement that they seem to be looking for a bigger class?

Quinn Emanuel is the premier business litigation firm in the United States. With over 450 lawyers in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Chicago, Tokyo, London, and Mannheim, we are the largest firm in the United States that only does business litigation.

I strongly doubt an office that literally was just opened is taking in summer associates.Anonymous User wrote:did they actually recruit for the DC office at your school? they didn't at HLSAnonymous User wrote:Anybody got CB's at Quinn DC?
