What are your thoughts on Winston & Strawn (NY)?

As an interviewer, what are questions that you like to ask that give you a good sense of the candidate?

Wondering if you have any thoughts about Weil (ny) litigation?

Do you guys dislike when an interviewee answers a question that hasn't been asked?

Interviewer saw that I'm a transfer, remarked that my old school was a "good school," with a pause. I agreed but went on to explain that despite it being a good school, I transferred for family reasons.

Both obviously excellent firms. Have slightly different specialties. Don't have much bad to say about either from a general perspective; if there are specific questions about practice areas I can try to speak to that. Location/fit are as good a reason as any to decide between them.

Don't have a ton unfortunately. Not that I have anything bad to say, just don't see them much. Is their NY office primarily lit/BK focused?

I like to have candidates talk generally about a few different topics - great way to see how their mind works and oral expression skills. I want to see some sort of enthusiasm and to have the candidate either show (not tell) me their skills or convince me about a point of view. Questions will depend on resume and my mood - I don't have a preset checklist of questions but I've done enough of these that I think I know where to poke and prod.

I have dealt with them a few times indirectly on things and seems like a good group (smart, etc.). They were semi-adversarial (appropriately given the contexts) but not unreasonable. Nothing bad to say.

Seems a reasonable response in that circumstance

Recent grad, 16 months out, interviewed at V100 in Virginia for a entry level position and was told at end of CB I would be getting an offer. Its been 10 days. Im setting up other interviews but this is my top choice by far, I'm wondering how long do these things typically take? would it be ok to reach out to the firms director of recruiting I've been in contact with and ask for an update on timeline or is that too much?

2L here. Is massmailing multiple offices of the same firm frowned upon, even though I'd be willing to live in either city?

Second question: if I did CB interviews at one office and got dinged, would I be auto-rejected if I apply to the same firm but different office with strong ties? I actually interviewed well with that firm, but I'm guessing I got rejected because lack of ties, and very small summer class.

Thanks!

If you actually did the interview already, I would reach out to the recruiting coordinator and say something like:

Thank you very much for meeting with me. I was very disappointed to not receive an offer from office X, but wanted to reiterate my level of interest overall, including for positions with city Y. If there are opportunities there, I would very much appreciate...etc

Think about asking questions that would draw out "useful" information - how hard is this person going to work? How committed to the firm? Do I like him/her? Would I feel confident delegating things to this person? etc

Thoughts on exit options for capital markets associates? Is it "easy" to exit into a F500 company, or are exits normally more limited to financial institutions. Would it be crazy to do M&A even if you preferred cap markets work due to broader exit options? Assume firm in question is in the DPW/Cleary/STB tier

Should PE vs. Public M/A exit options really be a major factor in weighing summer offers between peer firms?

Cravath or PW for litigation? Any thoughts? Does Cravath name really carry that much weight in NY scene?

Exit options do seem better for M&A associates - but I have to believe your options are pretty good for DPW/Cleary/STB and similar no matter the group.

Most F500 companies will regularly need to access the capital markets. If you end up super-specialized I am sure it's tougher - for example I bet Cahill associates primarily go to banks, etc.

Key will being able to demonstrate proficiency in a few different types of deals, showing you can work across areas
