Um... Why is an applicant posting advertisements for law schools?

Not suprised UIC doesn't have a strong hold in PI since they don't even have a law school. But yeah I'd agree; I'm headed to Depaul next year and basically have a PI gig setup for next summer through networking this summer, grads are everywhere.

I worked in Chicago this summer and it seemed like John Marshall Law School grads were everywhere (obvs I wasn't involved in biglaw).

That's because JMLS graduates more people every year than NU and UofC combined.

I talked to a couple recent JM grads just hanging out at the bars this summer and was actually surprised they both had solid gigs and both claimed most of the people they knew were employed as well, I'm really beginning to think that the gap between the Big 2 (Uchi & NW) isn't as wide over the rest of the Chicago schools outside of Big Law and Federal jobs.

Can you hint at what you'll be going into for the summer? Mostly what I've heard from Depaul grads and students thus far has leaned toward non-profit work.

I'l be at a Homeless Initiative Project, Depaul actually has a Public Interest Center which is supposed to be great, I know they offer a select group of students the opportunity to be in a LRW class specific to PI issues, They offer allot of opportunities for networking and clinical experience.

I'm in no way endorsing JMLS but there are a surprising amount of attorneys working great jobs who originated from that school. Granted, they all graduated in the 70's and 80's, but my point remains the same. It's not a great school and the attorney I helped in a PI job over the summer said JMLS resumes went straight in the trash when she was working as a hiring partner in a private firm - but - but...its not AS bad as some think.

They have a 7 yr program to graduate. If you want to take your legal education a class or two at a time while working, it may not be the worst option depending on your financial situation. It just depends on schollys, desire to be a lawyer and expectations upon graduation.

If your focus is PI, then a school's LRAP plan becomes important. I don't know much about the LRAP plans for any of the lower tiered schools listed; however, in general they tend to have weak LRAP plans. Going PI without a good LRAP plan from your school is not easy.

Mayor Daley had a JD from DePaul. I always thought that had a lot to do with the unusual placement success of DePaul grads into gov't jobs in particular, and I have to wonder how long that'll remain valuable now that his reign is over and the market is full of higher-tier grads desperate for work.
