What market should you apply to? (Market sizes ITT)
Introduction
I present to you: Summer Associate positions available at Vault 100 law firms in three major markets.
I am briefly out of retirement because I am in love with numbers and at war with everyone bitching about NYC.
I counted NYC and DC, Chicago was counted in this thread: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 3&t=161763
Data
Location: Approx # of summers (2011)
Chicago: 330 (approx)
Washington, D.C.: 658
New York: 1,758
Conclusion
Y'all do whatever y'all want to do, but now you can do it with sweet, sweet data.

Are those numbers represent the SAs working at big law firm this summer?thesealocust wrote:Introduction

Kirkland was double counted in there. Subtract 68 from the 2010 numbers and 130 from the 2011 numbers and you have reality (they added in the collective form for K&E for some reason). 330.

So NY big law is hiring almost 1,800 2Ls this year and D.C. is hiring 600? That sounds like good news?

Everyone knows it is worse than 2007. The relevant comparisons should be that it is better than 2010.Trequartista wrote:How much did New York and D.C hire in 2007?Eco wrote:So NY big law is hiring almost 1,800 2Ls this year and D.C. is hiring 600? That sounds like good news?

My DC firm is almost double last year's class. Know of one or two of the bigger firms that also had 50-100% growth. (But one other firm I interviewed with last year grew by single digits in terms of spots not %)Trequartista wrote:By a significant amount?ndirish2010 wrote:Everyone knows it is worse than 2007. With the way everyone is talking about how we're all fucked, a combined 2,500 associate positions in d.c. and ny isn't as bad as I thought. I literally had this vision of only like 30 students per school in the top 20 getting any job lol.

His post makes zero sense. Yep, 30 HLS students are getting ANY job. Did anyone think that?Aston2412 wrote:He's saying it's apparently not as bad as everyone thought it was.ndirish2010 wrote:What?Eco wrote:With the way everyone is talking about how we're all fucked, a combined 2,500 associate positions in d.c. and ny isn't as bad as I thought. While it's certainly not written eloquently, the post makes sense to me...ndirish2010 wrote:His post makes zero sense. Yep, 30 HLS students are getting ANY job.
