Ditto, probably the exact same e-mail at the same time.

This waiting is absolutely brutal.

Why won't these firms at least send out dings?

It would be a lot more humane if they just emailed us instead of using snail mail.

I'm going to dread the mail man every day this week

I agree. Plus, those that are actually responding aren't always entirely clear -- a firm I'd really like sent out dings on Friday, but I've heard nothing. No idea what that means.

So is the consensus that most firms are snail mailing rejections as opposed to emailing? Has anyone gotten a snail mail rejection yet?

Also, re the above discussion re A&P DC-- did everyone get the reception invite? If so, can anyone explain their hiring process? Seems like they have 2 rounds of screeners for everyone who got an interview, then have CBs, then make offers? Wow.

I got a snail mail rejection from King and Spalding.

Any other rejections anyone has heard of? I don't know of many firms doing any so far.

I don't understand the snail mailing. I've interviewed in a bunch of different industries (from 2006 on) and no one used snail mail except to send offer packets.

In the age of cost cutting, wouldn't it just be the easiest cost to cut?

Do you guys think there is a serious disadvantage to having CBs scheduled in mid to late Sept? I've seen people on other threads complaining about the disadvantages of having CBs later than the end of August. Now I'm worried.

Depends on the firm. One firm told me they aren't starting until Sept 12, so mid-late Sept wouldn't be an issue. Another told me they're starting on Aug 29, so it's possible it'd be a disadvantage. It's always better to be first in a rolling admissions process, but being late certainly won't torpedo a candidacy.

I think those complaints are only half true. In part, yes, offers are made on a rolling basis and its better to have your callback when there are 30 offers left on the table rather than 3. But on the other hand, having offers out by the end of August is a very new phenomenon, many firms still do the majority of their callbacks in September and into October, and these firms do not want to do 50 callbacks in October if they know they're only going to make 5 offers. So, they generally keep enough offers open that you're not totally screwed if you interview past August.

Long story short -- in my opinion, the maxim that you should schedule callbacks as early as possible, and schedule your favorite firms first, is absolutely true. But, that doesn't mean you necessarily need to worry about September callbacks being futile.

Most of mine are mid to end of September. That is when firms have time available. I only have one in August so far. I know it isn't ideal, but what can you do?
