So, is there any reason to go to these receptions they're inviting us to?
Do they keep track of who came and then think you are more interested?

i dont think so...though i cant say for sure. generally, it is to just meet some of their attorneys, ask them a few questions, float your name around, etc.

i dont believe that you even have to be there from start to finish (in case a few overlap)...

If you RSVP to one of these things, they typically print name tags for you. Then they have a bunch of name tags to give out when you show up at the reception. If you didn't RSVP, they might assume you're not that interested. If you don't show up, your name tag is still left on the table at the end, and they can tell you didn't actually go.

In other words, they can tell who bothers to show up at these things. I can't comment on how much of a difference it makes, but they can tell, and they do keep track of attendance.

You all seriously need to calm the hell down and breathe. You will all be employed. As for grades, I knew people with pretty decent grades who didn't get callbacks (likely because they were so uptight/nervous/weird) in the interview, while people with mediocre grades got a fair number of callbacks. Go chill out, enjoy Restaurant Week, and stop giving this school any more of a crazy reputation than it already has.

I didn't know there were any jobless 3Ls at Harvard.

There's a pretty fair amount. There aren't a ton of us, but its enough to possibly raise an eyebrow.

+1 to both parts. Top 15% grades, 1L firm experience at a peer firm.
