Bid preferencing
Does anyone have any advice on how this works?
I'm utterly nervous I'm going to get no interviews because I'll have ranked too many low interest firms high and high interest firms low. Is that going to happen? I don't even know which ones are high interest. I would post my list buy I don't know how to copy and paste it without taking the whole page.

Yest, that is going to happen. You will not receive any interviews.
Wow, sounds like you have a lot of problems. If only there were any way for you to solve them :/Anonymous User wrote:I don't even know which ones are high interest. I would post my list buy I don't know how to copy and paste it without taking the whole page.

No, I don't think you should drop out. Even without interviews or a job, law school is an intellectually exhilarating place to be. You'll continue to meet amazing people, grow as a person and a thinker, and discover new things about the world.
Plus, debt is really just a social construct anyway. What really IS money? I don't know either. Not worth making decisions off of a database entry on some bean counter's ledger.

I know. I just figure maybe with more WE, I'll do better next time. So maybe I should drop out, work for another year, and then come back.
Even better, keep coming back and dropping out until I get a job out of OCI

Two-stage plan: You do that, and I'll write an existential play ABOUT that for you to perform in. It'll have so many layers of meta.Anonymous User wrote:I know. I just figure maybe with more WE, I'll do better next time. So maybe I should drop out, work for another year, and then come back.

Ordering is impossible to say with precision, but you'll get plenty, especially if 'grades/school are not an issue.'

I'm not. Your list makes sense based on what you've said. No sarcasm. (I realize I'm sort of the boy who cried wolf on this front, but seriously, it looks good. I wouldn't carry the sarcasm to potentially harmful advice on a bidlist).Anonymous User wrote:I can't tell if you're making funthesealocust wrote:Sounds well thought out and like you did your research! So now that we have the messy stuff out of the way, how is life generally? Family doing alright, feeling like you fit in at law school, excited about OCI? I know this can be a stressful time, I like to think I mean more to you, anonymous user, than just some kind of employment advice slot machine.

Why I want to work for your firm? My buddy who's a lawyer told me to work for you, and I looked up your salary and it's the right one.
Why do you want to be a lawyer? What the blazes else do you do with a law degree and a brinks truck of debt.
Why do you want to do tax? I got a good grade in it.
Do you have any questions about our firm? Do you do direct deposit; because it doesn't sound like I'll have time to go to the bank.

Have you been getting enough sleep? Eating well, getting out some? Do you feel like your support network is there for you?
We spend so much time talking between faceless computer monitors, I want to be more than just an interview advice provider.
What do you really want out of life - and will law school really help you get there? There's a lot out there, are these years worth it? What else could you be doing?
Are you happy?

Enough sleep? No, I am under a lot of stress from something else.
Support network? Excellent.
What do I want out of life? To get through it, without worrying about making a living, doing something I tolerably enjoy.
Will law school get me there? Better than anything else I can think of. I am decently good at it, and decently enjoy it.
What else could I be doing? 10 years ago, I could have been an engineer, or a doctor. At 28 with no marketable undergrad, law school. Still, I probably would have chosen law anyway. I like it, I'm drawn to it. I just wish there was a way to do it without the stress.
Thanks, that felt good. You wanna try?

Re: Bid preferencing
I'm sorry to hear you're not happy. There's a time and a place though, and maybe now the stress is worthwhile. And as somebody who has been through it, I promise you this: The stress will only go down from here; the wave has broken. You'll likely crawl the walls once or twice more during the actually recruiting process, but soon you'll be in a world where the gnawing sense of inadequacy is at least somewhat corralled.Anonymous User wrote:Happy? And from there, the world is your oyster. You are free. If you realize the stress and bullshit of the law isn't worth it, you can drop out and start anew anywhere else. But it sounds like you see a lot of potential in yourself and in the legal sector, so after reflection you'll probably want to stick it out and get something out of it. But it's key to know that you're in control - you chose this path, and if it's not satisfying to you, you can change it.
Next year I hope you find a way to be more happy. That's different for everyone so I won't try to preach - maybe you need meditation and serenity or maybe you need a hobby or club or adventure to really dive into and take up your efforts. There are so many options, but I really hope you chase what makes your heart glad. There's just not enough time to put up with BS unless it's getting you to somewhere that you want to be.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
