question with oci and connection

Postby Anonymous User » Sun Jul 17, 2011 9:27 pm

Hi I am wondering if you guys can help me on this question:
I know a major client of a firm that is coming to oci at my school (The firm is completely out of my reach), the client has already agreed to help me.
I am wondering if I should be bidding for the firm on OCI or if I should be sending my resume seperately through the client? I am afraid that they will write me off right away through oci. Which way would help the most?

hey, you bring up a good point I am actually also wondering if this is the kind of issue that a law student can openly discuss with the career services?

why wouldn't you send the resume separately through the client?

and OCS doesn't have your individual best interests at heart. at some point, you have to be an adult and get yourself a job the way adults get jobs--on your own. and asking people you know to pass on your resume is absolutely one that adults get jobs.

and why couldn't you discuss ANY question openly with them??? not that they're qualified to answer your questions, but why should you be afraid of them? at the very least, they have no power either to help you or to hurt you.

I worked for a corp this summer with an outside counsel budget of $50million.
But we like to hire cheap counsel sometimes. I wrote a motion which the outside counsel used. Our litigation attorney said it was probably the first motion this firm ever filed with proper citation. So I don't want a job with them.

Hi Sharklaser, this is the author of the thread. Thanks for all your input, are you saying I should ONLY give me resume to the client and NOT bid on that firm on ci at all? (especially the client is from another office but said he will be able to help with this particular office too) Again, thanks for all your input I hate to ask these questions but I'm desperate.

I'm in the same boat and I've decided to apply through OCI while simultaneously having my contact notify the firm. This way, the partner can email the recruiter to set mine resume aside.

Now, let's just hope it works!
