How likely would one be able to keep their hobbies? Forum

Just out of plain curiosity,(b/c I don't know exactly how busy lawyers are) would working at BigLaw mean I wouldn't be able to enjoy my hobbies anymore?
I've been doing a couple of sports (boxing and tennis) since I was a kid and have been practicing on a daily basis throughout undergrad. It would be great if I could continue to do this although I don't expect myself to be able to do them everyday. But if I work at Biglaw, would I be so busy that I would be lucky if I can make time for sleep?

You can squeeze nearly anything in if you want to. Getting to it every day might be a challenge, but finding regular time shouldn't be. You'll be working 60-70 hours a week in big law. Do the math.

You're not grinding 100 hours a week every week in biglaw, even in NYC. The problem is that you have no flexibility. So if your hobbies are something you can be super flexible about, yeah, you'll have time to do them, within reason.

No, you are working from 9:30 to 8 or 9 or so, so anything organized is long since over. Maybe if it's independent exercise at a gym, you could do, but truthfully I'm so exhausted at the end of the day I never feel motivated enough to do it. You may be stronger though!

Organized anything seems like FTL. Even as an SA I've repeatedly come close to blowing dinner plans.

Your best bet is to do these things BEFORE you go into work. Once you show up, your ass is theirs until they let you go, sometimes after midnight.

One of my interviewers from Milbank (partner) was an avid scuba diver, which is a hobby I hope to continue along w/ CrossFit. How easy that is, esp when starting as an associate may prove more difficult than like, but hoping can make occassional time to go on some dives.
