While this certainly doesn't cost its list price, $165k, they aren't making it for under $1000 either: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fj1LofL2 ... re=relatedfatduck wrote:the 10,000% markupParaflam wrote:That watch is ugly as shit anyway. What makes it worth $15k?

You know what I mean. You can buy a decent looking watch that will last you a long time without spending that kind of money. And I've gone most of my life without a watch and been just fine. Again, different strokes for different folks, but I can't really understand the point of spending thousands on something like that. And I'm far from stingy.
People spending $15K on a watch generally have a different view of money than broke-ass law students.
No.
Well, maybe. It depends on the watch and the person wearing it. But as a general rule, the douchers tend to go for something much flashier to show that they have money. An Audemars Piaget doesn't exactly scream money like a diamond-encrusted Rolex does.

You're absolutely correct. Rolex, for example, is not a watchmaker anyone with sense would buy from.kalvano wrote: Well, maybe. It depends on the watch and the person wearing it. Re: Wearing an Expensive Watch During an Interview
Serious answer -
I wouldn't wear it. As someone who has interviewed other people, and been interviewed many times, one thing I do notice is what watch people are wearing. I do form impressions based on that. Kind of like seeing what cars are in the parking lot of the company you interview at.
An expensive watch is the surest, yet subtle way of showing off.

Then where do you draw the line? Is $250 too much? $500? $1000?
Does the age of the person being interviewed matter?

Yes, the age and experience matter. If you could have made that money for yourself and afforded the watch, go ahead and wear anything.kalvano wrote:ajr wrote:Serious answer -

Otherwise, don't wear the premium brands. Anything under $500 is probably ok.
A boss who has always wanted a Rolex but could not afford one will feel bad hiring a 20-yr old with a Rolex on.

This isn't OCI (read the OP) and the guy's not 20 years old. I wouldn't pay 15k for that watch but if you would more power to you. I don't see an issue with wearing it.
Relevant question: if I want to buy a new, nice-but-not-too-nice watch, how do we feel about Omega v. Tag Heuer?

I'm just saying it's not like "Who the hell cares?" People do care, will notice it, and judge you for it. If you're ok with that, then wear it by all means. If you bought it for yourself, then there really is no issue.

I love my TAG. It's super comfortable, and looks nice as either a daily watch or when I am dressed up.
They don't make my exact model anymore, but they still make them simple and in stainless steel. I think mine retailed around $1200.
Omega is a nice watch, too, but I just found the fit and feel of the TAG to be nicer.

$3k is still too much for something that tells you the time imo.amyLAchemist wrote:I wore a watch during interviews that is about 3k. I wear it every day. Why would I change that? My two cents.

Seriously though, the only type of people who can afford a 15k watch are hella rich. So if OP is so rich, why the hell is he a biglawl associate?

Cellphones are for telling time. Watches should either add something to an outfit or not be worn.Flips88 wrote:$3k is still too much for something that tells you the time imo.amyLAchemist wrote:I wore a watch during interviews that is about 3k. Very juvenile viewpoint. Checking time on a cellphone is incredibly unprofessional/rude to those around you. Every man should wear a watch to work.

Re: Wearing an Expensive Watch During an Interview
do you all seriously need to check the time that often? i could tell you what time it is within about 15 minutes any time, just from internal clock, and that's if i haven't seen the time in a while (on a billboard, bank sign, computer, whatever). you should only need to check your watch or cell phone occasionally, to recalibrate.

Have you ever worked in an office? I've been in meetings where everyone but the person talking was looking at a blackberry.leobowski wrote:quakeroats wrote:Cellphones are for telling time.
