~3.15 GPA at M or P - OCI advice?

Had a rough first semester mainly due to the death of a close family member during week 1 of fall exams (there's a note on my transcript from the Dean regarding this, so employers will know), but came in at about median second semester. I know I don't have great chances of landing a job out of OCI, but I want to give it a shot. I've read most of the OCI advice threads on TLS and will be spending my bids on NYC firms with large class sizes. I'll also be mass mailing NYC (I have no ties to any secondary markets). Does anyone have any additional suggestions for which firms (type of firm, or specific firms) I have a fighting chance at? Please reply or PM me if you have any comments or suggestions. Thanks.
